STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Led by goalkeeper
Mauri Jackson's five saves in her second consecutive shutout victory, the East Stroudsburg University women's soccer team defeated the College of Staten Island, 1-0, in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at Dolphin Soccer Complex.
The Warriors are now above .500 on the season with a 7-6-1 record, while the Dolphins fall to 3-11-1 on the campaign.
ESU's goal came during the 80th minute of play when Corynn Gamber's shot on goal was redirected in the Dolphin goal by a CSI player and was charged as an own goal.
Notables
- Jackson's clean sheet is the fifth of the season and the 23rd of her ESU career. She is just five shutouts away from passing Stacy Linzenbold's (1995-98) 27 career shutouts for second-place in program history.
- The Warriors have not allowed a goal since now No. 3 Kutztown scored the golden goal in overtime on Oct. 16. Jackson made two saves against Mansfield earlier this week in the shutout.
- ESU held advantages in shots (11-6), and corners (8-1).
- Both squads registered five shots on goal.
- Rebecca Kotula led the Warriors with four shots, while Teagan Marshall added a pair.
How it Happened
- 79:15 | Alessia Bianchini was able to find Evencia Welsh onside deep into the Warrior offensive zone. With Welsh heading toward the goal, she would send a perfect cross to Gamber, who was sprinting towards the center of the net. A CSI defender was able to get a foot on the shot in hopes of redirecting it, but the shot would find the top left pocket of the net for the lone goal of the contest.
Up Next: The Warriors return to the PSAC slate on Wednesday, when ESU hits the road one final time this regular season against Shippensburg. The matchup between the Warriors and Raiders is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m.
