SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- In its final road game of the regular season, the East Stroudsburg University women's soccer team picked up two points in the conference standings with a 2-0 victory over Shippensburg at David See Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Warriors improve to 8-6-1, 6-6-1 in the PSAC while the Raiders drop to 4-10-1, 4-8-1 in conference action.
Millie Smith and Caitlynn Leffler each tallied their first career goals in the contest to lead the offensively. Natalie Schooley assisted Smith's goal, while Corryn Gamber was responsible for setting up Leffler's score.
Mauri Jackson posted her third consecutive clean sheet, making six saves in the process.
Notables
- With the win, ESU was able to keep Pace with Millersville in PSAC East standings. Both team's have 19 points and are deadlocked for the final playoff spot. Millersville currently holds the tiebreaker over ESU, but both teams will meet at Eiler-Martin Stadium on Nov. 3. Millersville defeated Mansifeld 5-0 on Wednesday night.
- Smith and Leffler are the eighth and ninth Warriors to score a goal this season.
- The assist from Gamber was the first point of her season, while Schooley's helper was her second assist of her freshman campaign.
- Jackson posted her third consecutive shutout and her sixth of the season. She inches closer to Stacy Linzenbold's 27 career shutouts for second place all time at ESU.
- The Warriors scored on two of its three shots on goal, while Ship landed six shots on goal. Overall, the Raiders led 12-10 on shots.
- Shippensburg led 4-1 on corner kicks.
How it Happened
- 8:15 | Schooley took a pass from Skove, sending a centering pass to Smith. Smith was able to box out a Raider defender, before moving to her left and firing a shot to the left of the Shippensburg goalkeeper.
- 42:39 | Gamber was able to track down a pass deep in the offensive zone from Olivia Shollenberger. Gamber quickly sent a perfectly placed cross to a sprinting Leffler, who was able to immediately put a foot on the ball and redirect it to the left side.
Up Next: The Warriors close out the regular season with a three-game home stand, beginning with a matchup against Lock Haven this Sunday. The Halloween contest is slated for a 2:30 p.m. start at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
