EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University volleyball team completed the season sweep of Kutztown as they defeated the Golden Bears, 3-0, on Friday night at Koehler Fieldhouse. The set scores were 25-20, 25-18, 25-13.
The Warriors move to 10-9 overall and 6-2 in PSAC play with their 11th straight victory over the Golden Bears, who dropped to 7-13 on the season and 2-6 in conference play
Notables
- ESU recorded their best attack percentage of the season at .262, which included a mark of .351 in the third set
- Kaitlin Bruchhauser and Kenzie Guimont each recorded a team-high nine kills
- Claire Choloux recorded eight kills and 20 digs
- Ali Finch finished with five kills, 35 assists, seven digs and four total blocks
- Jasmine Mooney and Sydney Stone added eight kills apiece
- The Warriors held the Golden Bears to a .060 attack percentage
- ESU had 22 more kills and four less attack errors than Kutztown
How it Happened
- In a tightly contested first set, neither team was able to grab much of a lead, but with the scored tied at 10-10, the Warriors rattled off four straight points which forced Kutztown into a timeout. The Golden Bears would end up evening the score at 19-19 but out of an ESU timeout, the Warriors won six of the next seven points to win the first set, 25-20.
- ESU carried momentum over into the second set as they built a 10-5 advantage before a timeout by the Golden Bears. The Warriors kept it rolling out of the stoppage as they would go ahead by as many as nine at 19-10. Kutztown could only cut ESU's lead to as many as seven points after that as the Warriors would close out the set, 25-18, for a 2-0 lead in the match.
- Kutztown kept battling to open the third set as they trailed by only two at 7-5, but the Warriors would go on a 7-2 spurt which forced the Golden Bears to call a timeout. ESU could not be stopped as they built a 22-9 advantage before a second timeout by Kutztown. The Warrior would ultimately finish out the set, 25-13, for a 3-0 sweep of the Golden Bears.
