Volleyball Sweeps PSAC East Leading Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN – After being swept at home earlier this season, the East Stroudsburg University volleyball team returned the favor by beating PSAC East leading Shepherd, 3-0, on Friday night at the Butcher Center. The set scores were 25-15, 25-16, 25-22.

The Warriors win their fourth-straight match to move to 12-9 overall and 7-2 in the PSAC East while the Rams drop their second consecutive contest to fall to 18-2 on the season and 7-2 in league play.

Today's victory also marked the seventh time in program history the Warriors have recorded four consecutive shutouts.

Notables

- The Warriors recorded their best attack percentage of the season at .265

- Ali Finch finished with five kills, 32 assists, 12 digs and two total blocks

- Claire Choloux posted a team-high 11 kills as well as five digs, one assist and one ace

- Jasmine Mooney registered 10 kills and a .375 attack percentage

- Kaitlin Bruchhauser (.400) and Kenzie Guimont (.353) each had seven kills

- Emily Meredith notched a team-high 13 digs. Meredith moves into fourth all-time with 1,530 career digs.

- The Warriors held the Rams to their third lowest hitting percentage of the season at .108

- ESU recorded 16 more kills and seven less attack errors than Shepherd

How it Happened

- The Warriors raced out to a 4-0 lead and ultimately went ahead 8-2 before the Rams battled back within three at 14-11. ESU would then score eight of the next nine points before closing out the set, 25-15, to grab a 1-0 lead in the match.

- In a back-and-forth opening second set, the Rams jumped out to a 11-7 lead before the Warriors rattled off four straight points to even the score. ESU kept their momentum rolling as they grabbed an 18-13 advantage before the Rams cut the score to three. However, the Warriors answered by rattling off seven of the next eight points to close out the set, 25-16, for a 2-0 lead over Shepherd.

- Shepherd would not go away quietly in the third set as they grabbed a 11-6 advantage which forced the Warriors into a timeout. Out of the break, ESU cut the lead to two, at 14-12, causing the Rams to call their own timeout. After the Warriors brought the score within one point on two occasions, they would finally tie the set at 20-20. ESU would ultimately score five of the next seven points to finish out the set, 25-22, for a 3-0 sweep of the Rams.

ESU has a quick turn around as they head back north to square off against Shippensburg. First serve between the Warriors and Raiders is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside Heiges Field House.
