Warriors Fall to Lock Haven, 3-1

EAST STROUDSBURG -- The East Stroudsburg University men's soccer team grabbed an early lead over first-place Lock Haven, but the Bald Eagles tallied three consecutive goals to defeat the Warriors, 3-1, on Saturday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The Warriors fall to 6-7-2, 4-4-2 in the PSAC East, while the Bald Eagles are now 11-2-2, 9-1-1 in league play.

Hunter Paone tallied his first goal of the season during the fourth minute of play, putting in a rebound off of a shot of Abdulla Nuredini into the back of the net.

Goalkeeper Raymond Fortebuono made three saves in net for the Warriors.

Notables

  • LHU's Samuel Hershey led the Bald Eagles offensively with two goals and an assist. Beckham Sibiski tallied a goal along with an assist.
  • The Warriors led in both shots (16-12) and shots on goal (10-6).
  • LHU GK Aitor Ruiz de Eguilaz registered nine saves in goal.
  • ESU also led in corner kicks (7-2).
  • Colby Raymond led ESU with four shots on the evening.

How it Happened

  • 3:03 | ESU was awarded a free kick inside the penalty box, due to a back pass. Nuredini accepted a pass from Paone, with his shot being saved. Paone was able to immediately fire the rebound into the net to lift ESU to a lead.
  • 9:29 | Off of a corner kick from Beckham Sibiski, Samuel Hershey was able to head down the corner on the far-right side of the net to even the score.
  • 15:33 | This time it was Hershey that setup Sibiski, as Sibiski capitalized on a through ball by depositing a shot to the right of Fortebuono.
  • 51:03 | The Bald Eagles were able to add an insurance goal in the 52nd minute of play, as Hershey scored on a breakaway opportunity.

Up Next: The Warriors return to action on Wednesday against Millersville. The contest is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Poconos.
