No. 6 Field Hockey Rolls to 5-0 Victory at No. 9 Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG – The sixth-ranked East Stroudsburg University field hockey team picked up its sixth straight win over ninth-ranked Bloomsburg with a 5-0 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Steph Pettit Stadium.

The Warriors move to 9-3 on the season and 3-1 in the PSAC while the Huskies fall to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

A pair of goals in the first and third quarters proved to be too much to overcome for Bloomsburg as they recorded only three shots on goal all afternoon.

Freshman Jady van Gils and senior Celeste Veenstra got the scoring started while juniors Madison Kline and Hanna Lewis each found the back of the net in the third. ESU could push their advantage to 5-0 late in the fourth quarter when senior Hannah Barbush scored her first goal of the season.

How it Happened

5:42 | The Warriors grabbed a 1-0 lead less than six minutes into the game on van Gils' fourth goal of the season. Parker sent an initial shot just inside the arc that was headed wide right of the goal before van Gils stuck out her stick to redirect the ball in for the score.

14:24 | In the closing seconds of the first quarter, ESU extended its advantage to 2-0 as Veenstra found the back of the goal for the sixth time this year. The scoring opportunity was started when Parker ripped a shot at the top of the arc with Veenstra streaking towards net. The Alkmaar, Netherlands native proceeded to barely tip the shot past Bloomsburg's Abby Shaffer for ESU's second goal of the quarter.

39:08 | Off the penalty corner, Hannah Barbush controlled the ball at the top of the arc before dishing a pass off to her left to Kline, who followed up by blasting a low shot that ended up in the bottom left corner of the goal to give ESU a 3-0 lead.

41:24 | Just under three minutes later, the Warriors pushed their lead to 4-0 on Lewis' second goal of the season. After the Warriors forced the Huskies into a turnover on the opposite end, van Gils carried the ball down the sideline before sending a pass to Lewis. With the ball at the top of the arc, Lewis made a move to her left before sending a quick shot into the back of the net.

55:50 | With the Warriors in control late, Hannah Barbush joined the scoring party with her first goal of the season to make the score 5-0 in favor of ESU. Grace Lesh sent in a penalty corner to Kline at the top of the arc, who followed up by making a fake pass before Lea Hughes took the ball and dropped it for Barbush. Barbush proceeded by taking a hard-hit shot that trickled through the five-hole of the Bloomsburg's goalie.
