Warriors Claim Eighth Consecutive Win After Sweeping Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University volleyball team picked up its eighth consecutive victory with a 3-0 sweep of Bloomsburg on Friday night at Nelson Field House. The set scores were 25-14, 25-16, 25-19.

The Warriors improve to 16-9 on the season and 11-2 in the PSAC East while the Huskies drop to 11-16 overall and 5-8 in conference play.

ESU moved to 5-0 all-time against Bloomsburg after recording their seventh sweep in the last eight matches.

After Shepherd's 3-2 victory over West Chester tonight, the Warriors and Rams both hold an 11-2 mark in the PSAC East with one match for each team remaining in the regular season. 

Notables

- Kaylee LoPresto paced the Warriors with a team-high 10 kills to go along with six digs, two aces and one block

- Ali Finch recorded one kill, a team-high 33 assists, 19 digs, three aces and two blocks

- Emily Meredith notched a team-high 20 digs as well as two assists and an ace

- Kenzie Guimont posted nine kills, two digs and an impressive .615 attack percentage

- Jasmine Mooney and Sydney Stone each added eight kills for the Warriors

- ESU recorded 39 kills compared to just 22 for Bloomsburg

- The Warriors forced the Huskies into 19 attack errors and a .024 hitting percentage in the match

How it Happened

- After the first set opened with the team's trading points, the Warriors used a 6-0 run to go out in front 10-4 before ultimately grabbing a 12-6 edge which forced Bloomsburg to call a timeout. Out of the break, ESU outscored the Huskies the rest of the way, 13-8, to win the set 25-14. The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the match.

- The Warriors carried over their momentum to begin the second set as they opened on a 6-0 sprint before the Huskies recorded a point. Bloomsburg responded by scoring nine of the next 12 points to get within one at, 10-9. ESU answered with a 5-0 run to go ahead 15-9, and would go on to score 10 of the next 17 points to close out the set, 25-16.

- ESU raced out to a 9-3 lead to begin the third set, but the Huskies answered with a 4-0 sprint to get within two points at 9-7. The Warriors would then use their own 6-0 run to regain a 15-7 advantage before the Huskies snapped the streak. Bloomsburg outscored ESU the rest of the way, 12-10, but the Warriors held on to take the set, 25-19, for a 3-0 sweep in the match.

The Warriors finish the regular season tomorrow on the road at Lock Haven. First serve between the Warriors and Bald Eagles is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Thomas Fieldhouse.
