EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University volleyball team won its sixth-straight match on Friday evening, defeating West Chester 3-0 inside Koehler Fieldhouse. The set scores were 27-25, 25-18, 25-19.
The Warriors (14-9, 9-2) also recorded its sixth-straight shutout and improved to 9-2 at home this season while the Golden Rams fell to 20-6 overall and 8-4 in PSAC East play.
Since the beginning of October, the Warriors are 10-2, dropping just 10 sets along during the stretch.
Notables
- The Warriors recorded their second-best attack percentage of the season at .272, which included a mark of .341 in the third set
- Junior Sydney Stone posted a season-high 15 kills to go along with 12 digs and two block assists
- Senior Ali Finch notched five kills, a team-high 35 assists, 10 digs and three total blocks. Finch has recorded 30+ assists in each of the last five matches.
- Senior Emily Meredith registered a team-best 23 digs, giving her 1,569 in her career
- Kenzie Guimont and Kaylee LoPresto each had seven kills
- ESU (44) had three more kills more than WCU (41)
- The Warriors recorded 11 total blocks, the second-most in a single match this year
How it Happened
- In a back-and-forth first set, neither team was able to build much of an advantage until the Warriors went ahead by as many as four points at 14-10. ESU maintained their edge over the next several points as the Golden Rams were forced into a timeout at 17-13. As the teams traded points, the Warriors had a chance to close out WCU with the score at 24-20, but the Golden Rams used three kills and an attack error to tie the set at 24-24. With the score tied at 25-25, WCU served the ball into the net and Stone recorded a kill to help the Warriors close out the Golden Rams, 27-25.
- The Warriors carried momentum over into the second set as they raced out to a 10-4 lead before a timeout by the Golden Rams. ESU kept it rolling out of the break as they ultimately went ahead 16-9 before WCU was pressed into their second timeout. The Warriors cruised their way through the remainder of the set, winning 25-18, for a 2-0 lead in the match.
- West Chester grabbed an early advantage in the first set at 8-5, but the Warriors would score 11 of the next 16 points to take the lead, 16-15. ESU would then use a 3-1 run to build a three-point lead at 19-16, which forced the Golden Rams into their second timeout. The Warriors would go on to end the set on a 5-0 sprint to close out WCU, 25-19, for a 3-0 sweep in the match.

The Warriors return to Koehler Fieldhouse tomorrow at 4 p.m. when they welcome Millersville for their final home match of the regular season. Prior to the game, the Warriors will honor the seven members of their 2021 senior class.
