EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University volleyball team pushed their win-streak to seven with a four-set victory over Millersville on Senior Day inside Koehler Fieldhouse. The set scores were 25-17, 25-20, 22-25, 25-21.
Despite seeing their 20-set win streak come to an end, the Warriors improve to 15-9 on the season and 10-2 in the PSAC East while the Marauders fall to 10-19 overall and 4-8 in conference play.
With today's win, the Warriors record double digit wins in the PSAC for the third straight year and clinch a berth to the PSAC Tournament for the third consecutive season.
ESU currently holds the second seed with two matches remaining in the regular season.
Notables
- Senior Ali Finch finished with five kills, 40 assists, 21 digs, seven total blocks and one ace
- Senior Jasmine Mooney posted a team-high 11 kills as well as six digs
- Senior Kenzie Guimont and sophomore Claire Choloux each notched 10 kills
- Seven different players recorded a kill for the Warriors
- Emily Meredith anchored the Warriors defensively with a team-high 25 digs. The senior now has 1,594 in her career
- ESU (57) recorded eight more kills and seven fewer attack errors than Millersville (49)
- The Warriors finished with a .194 hitting percentage after recording a mark of .395 in the first set
How it Happened
- It was back-and-forth to open the first set as neither team was able to build much of advantage with the score deadlocked at 11-11. The Warriors proceeded to go on a 9-0 run, through a pair of Millersville's timeouts to grab a 20-11 lead. ESU would go on to close out the set, 25-17, for a 1-0 lead in the match.
- After the Marauders jumped out to a 11-8 lead in the second set, the Warriors scored eight of the next 11 points to grab a two point advantage. Millersville tied the set at 17-17 out of a timeout, but the Warriors answered with a 3-0 sprint to regain the lead. ESU ultimately pulled away from Millersville, scoring five of the next eight points for a 25-20 victory in the second set.
- Despite the Warriors taking a 6-3 advantage to open the third set, the Marauders answered with a 9-2 run to take the lead at 12-8. The Warriors would then fall behind by as many as five points before a timeout helped them cut their deficit to two at 19-17. Following a Millersville timeout, the Marauders went on to defeat the Warriors, 25-22, to cut the lead in the match to 2-1 in favor of ESU.
- ESU went out in front 13-9 to open the fourth set, but Millersville responded with a 7-1 run to take a 16-14 advantage. Following a timeout by ESU, the Warriors answered with a 5-1 sprint of their own to grab a 19-17. Millersville got within two points one more time at 20-18, but the Warriors closed out the Marauders, 25-21, for a 3-1 victory in the match.
