BETHLEHEM – The East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team lost an exhibition game against Division I Lehigh on Tuesday night at Grace Hall, 82-35.
Tuesday's contest against the Mountain Hawks, which compete out of the Patriot League Conference, served as the Warriors' final tune-up prior to its 2021-22 campaign which officially gets under on November 17 at Le Moyne.
The exhibition also marked ESU's first competition against another school that wasn't a scrimmage since their PSAC Tournament game versus IUP on March 7, 2019.
A short-handed ESU team, which was without the services of four players, trailed Lehigh by just two points with 2:34 remaining in the first quarter. However, the Mountain Hawks outscored the Warriors, 26-5, to take a 36-13 lead into the break.
After a tightly contested third quarter, the Mountain Hawks got hot shooting to beat the Warriors, 30-7, in the final quarter to put the game out of reach.
ESU was paced by freshman guard Rachel Capua, who posted a team-high seven points to go along with one rebound.
Claire Courter and Izzy Vogel scored six points apiece with Vogel also grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out an assist while Courter also added four rebounds, one assist and a steal.
Corrin Gill and Gwenn Sabato each recorded five points and two rebounds in their debuts for the Warriors.
The Warriors shot 25.0 percent (13-of-52) from the field overall and 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from 3-point range. From the foul line, ESU converted five of its nine attempts (55.6).
