EDINBORO, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University men's basketball team could not keep up with a fast-paced Edinboro offense, falling 101-87 to the Fighting Scots on Saturday afternoon at McComb Fieldhouse.
Every time the Warriors (4-3, 2-2 PSAC) looked to make a run at taking a lead, the Fighting Scots 4-4, 2-2 PSAC) countered with a scoring run of their own to consistently hold an advantage on the scoreboard throughout the contest. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for ESU.
Notables
- Marc Rodriguez registered a career-best 23 points, knocking down 9-of-13 attempts from the floor, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. The Philadelphia native added four rebounds, two blocks and three steals.
- Lakeem McAliley, who earned PSAC East Athlete of the Week honors the past two weeks, impressed again with 15 points and 14 rebounds in just 21 minutes, before fouling out late in the second half.
- Troy Jones added 13 points and four steals, while Carlos Pepin totaled 11 points and seven rebounds to round out the double-figure scorers.
- Edinboro was led by Jaryn Simpson (30 pts), Deontae Robertson (24 pts, 11 reb) and Dominque Keyes (21 pts, 17 reb).
How It Happened
- Edinboro built a 25-9 lead through the first eight minutes of play. The Warriors made just two of its first 10 field goal attempts, as the Fighting Scots put together a 20-4 run. Edinboro made 11 of their first 18 field goal attempts to jump to an early advantage on the scoreboard.
- ESU responded with an 11-2 run to slice the deficit to just seven at 27-20 with seven minutes remaining in the first half.
- After ESU made it a five-point game after a Rodriguez triple, Edinboro strung together an 8-0 run to extend its lead back to double digits at 38-25.
- Once against the Warriors would get back within seven at 38-31, but the Fighting Scots ended the opening half strong with an 11-4 sprint, heading into the locker room with a 14-point lead at 49-35.
- After the break, ESU would get within nine points of Edinboro before the Fighting Scots would once again build back its lead to double digits.
- Edinboro would not let get ESU get within striking distance, building a game-high 17-point lead at 71-54 with 10:45 left.
- The Warriors would not give up, slicing the deficit to as low as eight points down the stretch, but that's as close as ESU could get. Edinboro would finish the contest strong, earning its first against ESU at McComb Fieldhouse since the 2011-12 season with the 101-85 win.
