EAST STROUDSBURG -- The Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) announced on Wednesday that junior defensive end Deshawn McCarthy was named to the D2CCA Super Region 1 Second Team.

McCarthy, an All-PSAC East First Team selection gave opponents fits all season, recording 13 sacks, the most by a Warrior since 1992. His 13 sacks ranked second in the county in Division II through the end of the regular season, with only Ben Straatmann from Missouri S&T posting more sacks through 11 games with 14. He registered at least a half sack in eight contests and tallied 17.5 tackles for loss in total, the most by a Warrior since 2009. 

McCarthy earned PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week twice this season, after recording four sacks against Pace in the season opener and 3.5 quarterback takedowns behind the line of scrimmage against Millersville. He is just the fifth Warrior to earn defensive athlete of the week from the conference multiple times during his career.

Along with consistent pressure to the quarterback, McCarthy racked up 41 total tackles, a fumble recovery and five pass breakups. He helped the Warriors rank second in the conference in total sacks with 33.

McCarthy becomes the just the second Warrior defensive lineman to earn all-region status by D2CCA, joining Bryan Thomson in 2014 and 2012.

The Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.

Super Region 1 are schools from the PSAC, NE-10, G-MAC and MEC. The PSAC made up 46 percent (23 of 50) of both the D2CCA Super Region 1 First Team and Second Team.
