EAST STROUDSBURG -- Five East Stroudsburg Warriors reached double-figures in scoring and forced found its stroke by shooting 48.4 percent from the floor, as the ESU men's basketball team downed Seton Hill, 91-63, in the home opener on Friday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.
The Warriors picked up their first win of the season, improving their record to  1-3, 1-1 in the PSAC, while the Griffins fall to 0-6, 0-1 in conference action.
Carlos Pepin led the squad with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a double-double performance. He buried 4-of-7 shots from the field and converted 9-13 attempts from the charity stripe.
Lakeem McAliley made half of his 14 attempts from the floor, registering 16 points, while also grabbing seven rebounds and swatting an impressive seven Seton Hill shots. The Philadelphia native's seven blocks are the most in a single game for ESU since Channon Easley tallied a school-record eight blocks in 2005 against West Chester. Entering the day, only Jarnel Rancy (Caldwell), Devante Brooks (Southern Arkansas) and Trevon Spencer (Barton) have earned seven blocks in a game at the Division II level this season.
Troy Jones and Mike Millsip each added 13 points, while Justin Paz added 11 points to round out the double-figurer scorers. Millsip made six of his eight attempts from the field and also brought down seven boards.
Marc Rodriguez swished a pair of treys and a free throw for seven points. Seven different Warriors also registered points between four and a single bucket in the balanced performance.
SHU's Miles Monchecourt led the Griffins with a game-high 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including making 4-of-5 attempts from beyond the arc. He also led Seton Hill in rebounding with eight caroms. Drew Green and Samuel Tabe totaled 11 points each.
No Warrior had more than two turnovers. Along with leading in shooting (48.4% to 41.9%), rebounding (42-38) and turnovers (SHU - 19, ESU 11), ESU held advantages in points off turnovers (22-7), points in the paint (42-38), second chance points (15-11), fast break points (18-5) and bench points (30-15).
How it Happened
- Seton Hill would not hold a lead after taking a 3-2 advantage, as the Warriors would slowly build a double-digit lead at 21-11 with 13:13 left in the opening half.
- ESU would consistently build its lead, upping the advantage to 47-27 after a Rodriguez triple with 1:31 left. The Warriors would take a 47-29 lead into the locker room.
- Pepin posted 13 points in just 10:30 of work in the first half. The Warriors were red hot shooting from the floor in the first 20 minutes, making 16-29 shots from the floor (55.2%). ESU held SHU to shoot just 11-30 in the first 20 minutes.
- As their motto states, the Warriors were relentless, building its second half lead to as high as 36 points at 80-44 with 9:32 remaining. Seton Hill would get as close as 27 points of the Warriors during the final minute of play, but ultimately ESU would pick up its first win of the season in dominating fashion, 91-63.
