EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team trailed by only three points after the first quarter, but after getting outscored 21-6 in the second by Seton Hill, the Griffins cruised to a 67-38 victory over the Warriors on Friday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.
ESU falls to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC while the Griffins improve to 6-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
Notables
- Sophomore Leah Pishock paced the Warriors with a career-high 13 points to go along with four rebounds
- Graduate student Ryan Weise and freshman Katie Geisler each finished with six points
- Freshman Izzy Vogel recorded four points and team-high eight rebounds
- ESU was 14-of-49 (28.6) from the field, 3-of-13 (23.1) from behind the arc and had 23 turnovers turnovers
- Katie Nolan had a double-double for Seton Hill with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Courtney Tomas added 10 points. The Griffins finished 28-of-71 (39.4) from the floor and 7-of-25 (28.0) from behind the three point line
- The Warriors finished 7-of-10 from the line while Seton was 4-of-6
How It Happened
- After the teams traded buckets to open the first quarter, Seton Hill grabbed a 12-6 lead with a little under four minutes remaining. The Warriors pulled within one point at 12-11 but the Griffins were able to extend their advantage to 18-15 after the first 10 minutes.
- With the score at 24-19 at the 7:44 mark in the second quarter, Seton Hill went on a 5-2 run into the break to push their lead to 39-21.
- Seton Hill kept it rolling out of halftime scoring 10 straight points before a free throw by Pishock at the 7:11 mark. The Warriors would get buckets from Geisler and Weise the rest of the quarter as they found themselves behind 56-27.
- In the fourth quarter, ESU and Seton Hill each scored 11 points while shooting 21.4 percent and 31.3 percent from the floor respectively.
