Women’s Basketball Falls to Cal U at Home

EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team dropped its fifth straight game to open the 2021-22 season as Cal U defeated the Warriors, 69-29, on Saturday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Warriors drop to 0-5 on the year and 0-2 in conference play by the Vulcans improve to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC.

Notables

- Freshman Izzy Vogel was the only ESU player in double figures with 10 points to go along with five rebounds and two steals

- Freshman Katie Geisler recorded a career-high 11 rebounds as well as one block and steal each

- ESU struggled from the field, finishing 10-of-48 (20.8) overall, 2-of-15 (13.3) from the three-point line and were forced into a season-high 27 turnovers

- In just 24 minutes, Dejah Terrell paced Cal U with a double-double (21 points, 11 rebounds) while Halle Herrington added 14 points. The Vulcans were 26-of-70 (37.1) from the floor and 7-of-25 (28.0) from behind the arc.

- Cal U held the advantage at the charity stripe, going 10-of-15 while ESU finished 7-of-13

How It Happened

- It was all Cal U in the first quarter as the Vulcans were ahead 8-0 before ESU first point and finished the first 10 minutes with a 18-1 advantage.

- ESU opened the second quarter by scoring the first six points before Cal U hit a three pointer at the 6:38 mark. The teams would ultimately trade buckets the rest of the first half as the Vulcans took a 32-13 lead into the break.

- Cal U began the third quarter on a 14-0 run and the Warriors were held without a point until a three pointer by Ryan Weise at the 4:08 mark. Over the next four-plus minutes, ESU scored three points and found themselves trailing 56-19.

- In a back and forth fourth quarter, the Vulcans edged the Warriors 13-10 to hold on for the 69-29 victory.
