ESU Swimming Tops Millersville in Dual Meet

The Warriors won nine of 14 events against the Marauders

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University swimming team earned victories in nine of 14 events to defeat Millersville, 147-94, on Saturday afternoon at Pucillo Pool. 

"The team swam well today," said ESU swimming head coach Fan Yang on the victory. "Many of them went the extra mile for us to win. I'm really proud of them!"

First-year Warriors accounted for five of the nine wins on the day for ESU.

Freshman Jenna Johnson won all three individual events she competed in, taking triumphs in the 100-yd backstroke (1:05.55), 200-yd backstroke (2:20.40) and 200-yd individual medley (2:25.01). Classmate Madison Tafe grabbed a pair of victories in the 1000-yd freestyle (12:00.15) and the 500-yd freestyle (5:49.83).

Junior Sarah Luigard also earned two wins, earning first-place honors in both the 200-yd butterfly (2:27.03) and 100-yd butterfly (1:04.06). She also finished second in the 200-yd individual medley behind Johnson with a time of 38.68.

Senior Taylor Howery picked up two triumphs in the 50-yd freestyle (26.35) and 100-yd freestyle (57.75) to round the first-place finishers for the Warriors.

In the relays, ESU placed two runner-up performances. The squad of Johnson, Julia Harnish, Luigard and Howery finished second in the 200-yd medley relay with a time of 1:59.22. ESU also had a crew finish second in the 200-yd freestyle relay, with Emma Billings, Patricia Bartosh, Samantha Christman and Howery grabbing second with a time of 1:50.28.

The Warriors return to competition on Sat., March 20th in its first of two PSAC virtual meets.
