EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University baseball team dropped a pair of seven-inning games against Millersville, 5-1 and 9-5 on a windy Friday afternoon at Creekview Park.
The Warriors saw their five-game winning streak come to end as they fall to 9-5 overall and 7-3 in PSAC East play. Millersville, who was receiving votes in this week's NCBWA Top 25, combined to score 14 runs on 23 hits in the twin bill as they improved to 8-3 on the season and 5-1 in conference play.
Redshirt sophomore
Logan Stirr finished the day 3-for-6 at the plate with one walk and two runs scored for the Warriors. Redshirt freshman
Tim Haverstick was 3-for-6 at the dish with one run batted in and one run scored, while redshirt junior
Tommy Dunleavy recorded three hits.
Game 1 Recap
ESU and Millersville were tied 1-1 at the end of the first inning but the Marauders produced four runs over the final six innings and kept the Warriors' offense in check to earn the 5-1 victory in game one of the doubleheader at Creekview Park.
On the first pitch of the game, Millersville jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a home run to right field from Cole Friese. The Warriors tied it up at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning after recording a pair of hits. Piripavel worked a walk and advanced to second on a stolen before being knocked in a single to center field by
Carson Freeman.
The Marauders regained the lead in the top of the second inning with their second solo shot of the game off the bat of Darin Miller to make the score 2-1.
Millersville extended their lead to 4-1 on two runs and three hits in the top of the fourth inning. The Marauders smashed their third solo homer of the contest courtesy of Nick Mancuso to make the score 3-1. After a single and hit by pitch, Millersville attempted a double steal, but the runner headed to third was thrown out for the second out of the inning. Bren Taylor delivered a two-out knock to give the Marauders a three-run lead.
The Warriors best scoring opportunity the rest of the game came in the bottom half of the inning when Stirr and Haverstick led off with back-to-back singles. However, a double play ball from
Jerome Repetz shutdown ESU's chances.
The Marauders added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning after Jimmy Losh worked a bases loaded walked to push across their fifth run of the game.
After allowing one run on two hits in the first inning, Millersville starter Alex Mykut (4-0) limited the Warriors to three hits the rest of the way as he fired a complete game to go along with six strikeouts, earning his fourth win of the season.

Chase Nowak suffered the loss after surrendering five runs on nine hits over 6.0 innings. Redshirt sophomore
Justin Guidos did not allow a run in the final inning despite walking a pair.
Game 2 Recap
The Warriors and Marauders went back in forth in game two as each team scored at least one run (except ESU in the 3rd) through the first five innings, but the Millersville offense out paced ESU to earn the 9-5 win in game two of the twin bill.
Millersville jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Friese worked a lead off walk and eventually came around to score after base hits from Josh Losh and Luke Trainer.
Just like in game one, the Warriors answered with one run, on one hit and took advantage of a Millersville error in the home half of the inning to tie the game at 1-1.
Brainy Rojas produced an eight pitch walk, stole second and was able to advance to third on a failed pickoff attempt. With two outs,
Carson Freeman hit a double to right center field to score Rojas.
The Marauders reclaimed the lead in the top of the second inning as they scored a pair of runs with two outs to make the score 3-1. Mancuso led with a single before advancing to third on Friese's fielder choice, which was the second out of the frame. Behind 1-2 in the count, Taylor doubled to drive in Mancuso and Friese.
The Warriors answered with one run on one hit in the bottom half of the inning to cut Millersville's lead to 3-2. Walks from Stirr and
Joey Paolini set up Rojas to deliver a two-out RBI single for the Warriors' second run of the game.
Millersville scored three runs on three hits in the top of the third inning to push their advantage to 6-2. After getting the first out the inning, Eric Callahan and Darin Miller produced back-to-back doubles to make the score 4-2. Mancuso worked a walk and double steal attempt by the Marauders forced Haverstick into a throwing error down the third baseline which resulted in Millersville pushing their lead to 5-2. Cole Houser knocked in Mancuso on the single down the left field line for the fourth run of the inning.
The Marauders extended their lead in the top of fourth with one run on three hits to make the score 7-2. With two outs, Callahan delivered a base knock to score Taylor for Millersville's seventh run of the game.
ESU answered with two runs on three hits in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to 7-4. Haverstick led off with a single and
Sirwalter Melendez hit a ground rule double to set up the Warriors with one out in the frame. Rojas produced a deep drive to center field to score Haverstick and
Ben Piripavel delivered a two-out single for the Warriors' second run of the inning.
Millersville answered with two runs on three hits in the fifth to regain a five-run lead. Mancuso led off with his second home run of the afternoon to make the score 8-4. With two outs, Taylor doubled home Tyler Wright, who drew a walk earlier in the inning, to push Millersville's lead to 9-4.
The Warriors responded with one run on three hits in the bottom of the frame to make the game 9-5 in favor of the Marauders. Dunleavy singled with one out but was eventually thrown out at third on a base hit from Stirr. Haverstick hit two-out blooper down the right field line to score Stirr for the Warriors' fifth run of the game.
Over the final two innings, the Warriors never created a scoring chance as they failed to produce a baserunner.
Millersville starter Paul Wilson was credited with the win after allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out six over 4.0 innings. Ben Wilchacky allowed one run on three hits in one inning over work and Booby Dorta pitched a clean last two innings.

Cam Voss (1-1) was handed the loss after being tagged for six runs, five of them earned, on eight hits over 3.0 innings. Redshirt senior
Tyler Guidos permitted three runs on six hits over two innings of work while
JP Nolan and
Nathan Kitchell each pitched a scoreless inning.
