EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University swimming head coach Fan Yang will serve as the April guest speaker in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in College Athletics: A Call to Action webinar series. Yang will present via Zoom on Thursday, April 29 at 5:00 p.m. After a 20-to-30-minute presentation, Yang will answer questions through the chat function to complete the hour webinar.

Yang serves as the second guest speaker in the 12-part series, which runs once a month through February 2022.

"Coach Yang is a renowned national and international swimmer originally from China, where she had a remarkable amateur and professional swimming career," said ESU Director of Athletics Gary R. Gray. "She is now an NCAA Division II women's swimming coach, so I am excited to hear her thoughts on diversity, equity, and inclusion in college athletics. I am sure Coach Yang will give us some important ideas to think about in her presentation."

A native of China, Yang has served as the head coach of the Warriors' swim program the last two seasons, boasting a 7-3 record.

Before coming to ESU, Yang worked at Pocono Family YMCA in Stroudsburg. She also served as an assistant coach at Lafayette College (2014-16) for two seasons. Prior to her arrival in Easton, Yang's coaching positions included stops with the Peak Performance Camp in Seattle and Los Angeles, Easton Aquatic Swimming Club and Peak Performance Camp in Beijing, China.

In the pool, Yang has over 25 years of professional swimming and experience. She is a three-time champion in the 100-meter and 200-meter butterfly at the Beijing College Swimming Championships. She qualified in both events at the 1996 Olympic Trial.

"I appreciate the ESU athletic department providing me an opportunity to present in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in College Athletics speaker series," said Yang. "I am looking forward to sharing some of my personal experiences from a female Asian perspective."

Yang earned her bachelor's degree in physical education from Beijing Sport University where she competed in the butterfly, backstroke and freestyle. She completed her Master of Management degree from Massey University in New Zealand in 2005.

ESU men's basketball assistant coach Muhamadou Kaba opened the series on March 18.
