Warriors Lacrosse Set to Host NCAA Atlantic Region Championships

EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University lacrosse team is set to host the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Championships at Eiler-Martin Stadium this weekend. The three-seed Warriors will battle two-seed Seton Hill on Friday, May 14 at 2:00 p.m. The winner of that contest will meet first-seed West Chester on Sunday, May 16 at 2:00 p.m. in the Atlantic Regional Championship, with the winner advancing to the NCAA Division II Semifinals.

The Warriors (10-3) look to advance to the Atlantic Region Championship Game for the second time in school history. All-PSAC East Second Team selection and the all-time points leader at ESU, Hana Cicerelle, leads the team with 38 goals and 15 assists through 13 games this season. All-PSAC East Midfielder of the Year, Emily Mitarotonda has supplied 35 goals and seven assists for 42 points. The native of Rockaway, N.J. leads the squad with 56 draw controls.

In the cage, graduate student Tatyana Petteway is among the best goalkeepers to ever play at the Division II level. The Nanuet, N.Y. native stands just five saves away from becoming ESU's all-time saves leader, which would rank eighth all-time in Division II. She became Division II all-time minutes played leader in the PSAC Semifinals, with 4,232 minutes played over the past five seasons.

ESU is 3-3 all-time against SHU, with the two squads meeting every season from 2014-19. The Warriors have won the last three meetings against the Griffins, earning a 13-9 win at Whitenight Field in the latest edition of the series in 2019. Three of the six contests have been decided by two goals or less.

Seton Hill's (13-2) offense is led by Kristi Kada (51 goals, 7 assists) Jaclyn Frank (27 goals, 28 assists) and Kate Kada (35 goals, 5 assists) with the Griffins ranking second in the PSAC in points per game. The Griffins are among the best in the nation in caused turnovers, averaging 13 per contest which is third-best in Division II. Krista Kada ranks eighth nationally in caused turnovers per game (2.79) and ninth in the country in goals. The Griffins are making its second-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament after qualifying in 2019.  

West Chester (13-0) has been challenged in all three contests against ESU along with a tight 10-8 win over Bloomsburg on March 27. The Golden Rams are appearing in its 14th NCAA Tournament and look to advance to the national championship for the 11th time. 

ESU seeks its second-ever Atlantic Region title, after winning the regional championship over West Chester during the 2018 season. ESU enters its fourth NCAA Tournament with a 3-3 record, earning wins over Mercyhurst in 2018 and 2019 along with securing the 2018 Atlantic Region Championship against West Chester in 2018.

The winner of the Atlantic Region, East Region, Midwest Region and South Region will head to Salem, Va. for the Division II Semifinals on May 21. The winner of the semifinal bouts will play in the NCAA Division II National Championship Game on May 23 at Kerr Stadium.
