5/4/2021 12:13:00 PM

EAST STROUDSBURG – Entering the weekend, the East Stroudsburg University softball team needed either West Chester or Shippensburg to sweep one another in a four-game series in order to earn a spot in the upcoming PSAC Softball Championships.

The Golden Rams came through for Warriors, earning a pair of dominant wins (17-8, 12-1) and two come-from-behind extra inning thrillers (14-13, 13-12) to vault ESU into postseason play for the first time since 2015.

ESU, the #4 seed in the East Division, will travel to #1 seed in the East Division Kutztown in a best-of-three series beginning with a doubleheader on Thursday at North Campus Field beginning at 1:00 p.m. If the team's split the doubleheader, the two squads will play each other on Friday in deciding game three at 1:00 p.m.

The winner of the best-of-three series will face the winner of the No. 2 Shepherd – No. 3 West Chester series in the PSAC semifinal round beginning on May 9 at the home field of highest remaining seed.

The red-hot Warriors enter the postseason winners in 13 of their past 17 contests, including a sweep of Lock Haven in their most recent action. ESU's pitching staff of Marah Range (14-4, 2.75 ERA) and Leigh Ann Jenkins (7-5, 2.62 ERA) have led the Warriors pitching staff that has posted a 2.31 ERA over its past 17 contests.

ESU and Kutztown split the season series, 2-2, with both team's earning wins on their home field. Jenkins tossed a shutout against the Golden Bears in game two on April 16 at Creekview Park.

Fans wanting to attend the series at KU must wear a mask that covers their nose and mouth at all times, remain with their family or group and adhere to social distancing guidelines. For the full Kutztown spectator policy, click here.
