Warriors Fall in Double Overtime at West Chester

Jackson matches her career-high with 13 saves

WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- The East Stroudsburg University women's soccer team led for over 70 minutes, but could not prevent a goal late in regulation and the golden goal in double overtime, falling to West Chester, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon at John A. Farrell Field.

The Warriors are now 1-2-1, 0-2-1 in PSAC East play on the young season, while the Golden Rams improve to 2-0-1.

Haley Skove posted a highlight reel worthy goal to open the scoring on an assist from Caitlin Norwood. Goalkeeper Mauri Jackson matched her career-high with 13 saves.

Notables

  • WCU led 22-9 on shots and 15-6 on shots on goal.
  • The Golden Rams also held an edge in corner kicks, 7-4.
  • Skove now leads the Warriors with four points on the season with a pair of goals. She now has career points 49 (19 G, 11 A) in 70 games as a Warrior.
  • Jackson previously set her career-high on Oct. 6, 2019 against Lock Haven.
  • Norwood's assist was the first point of her collegiate career. The freshman from Collegevile has started in all four games this season.

How it Happened:

  • 13:13 | Evencia Welsh saved a pass from heading out-of-bounds and sent a pass to Norwood. Norwood settled the pass and found Skove, who would flip the ball into the air and send a high, beautiful shot from just outside the goal box to give the Warriors the lead.
  • 85:33 | With less than five minutes left in regulation, Kaitlynn Haughey would find the back of the net on an assist from Jacqueline Bruno to tie the game at 1-1 and force overtime.
  • 106:58 | The Warriors were unable to clear possession in their own defensive end, as Antonia Linus sent a perfect cross to Grabrielle White, who headed in the goal to the top-right pocket.
Up Next: The Warriors look to return to their winning ways at Eiler-Martin Stadium on Saturday night against Mansfield. The PSAC East matchup is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Poconos.
