No. 6 Field Hockey Sees Winning-Streak Halted in 3-1 Loss to No. 1 Shippensburg

EAST STROUDSBURG – The sixth-ranked East Stroudsburg University field hockey team saw their seven-game winning-streak come to end at the hands of top-ranked Shippensburg by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

The Warriors drop to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the PSAC while the Raiders improve to 7-0 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

ESU surrendered a pair of first quarter goals but would respond with a score of its own off the stick of senior Becca Heffner midway through the fourth quarter to get within one. With just under two minutes left in the game, Shippensburg added an insurance goal courtesy of the PSAC's leading goal scorer, Jazmin Petrantonio, to hold on for the victory.

- Heffner recorded her second goal of the season

- Senior Hannah Barbush picked up her team-high fifth assist and first defensive save of the season

- The Raiders held the advantage in shots on goal, 11-7

- Shippensburg was awarded 13 penalty corners compared to 10 for ESU

How it Happened

2:11 | The Raiders wasted no time grabbing the lead as they jumped out in front 1-0, just a little over two minutes into the contest. Anna Gruber took the ball along the end line before sending a pass out in front to Jenna Sluymer, who finished her shot into a wide open net.

13:04 | In the closing minutes of the first quarter, Shippensburg extended their lead to 2-0 after converting on a penalty corner. Caitlyn Wink sent a pass to Tori Albright, who fired a strike off the pads of Supey that ended up trickling in the net for the Raiders second goal of the quarter.

53:11 | After controlling the pace of play for a portion of the second half, the Warriors cut the Raiders' lead to 2-1 with just under seven minutes to play. Heffner found the back of the net for the second time this season as she redirected an initial shot from Hannah Barbush, who recorded her fifth assist of the year.

58:53 | Shippensburg put an end to the Warriors comeback in the final minutes of the game on goal from Petrantonio. Petrantonio delivered a strike into the left corner of the net after Maddie Reuther sent in the pass off the penalty corner.
