EAST STROUDSBURG -- Paced by two penalty kick goals and an assist by Colby Raymond, the East Stroudsburg University men's soccer team picked up a 3-0 victory over the College of Staten Island in the home opener at Eiler-Martin Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
The Warriors (2-1) pick up their second win of the season and get back to their winning ways after falling 1-0 to Molloy on Sunday evening. Lucas Marques opened the scoring with an early highlight-reel worthy goal to give ESU an early advantage on the scoreboard. The Dolphins fall to 0-1 on the season.
Notables:
- Raymond, a native of Kingwood, N.J. native now has 11 points (4 G, 3A) in his first three games as a Warrior.
- Lucas Marques (1 G, 3A) now has five points on the season after tallying three assists in the season opener against Felician.
- Goalkeeper Evan Miele made four saves in the full 90 minutes of action. He has allowed just one goal in 270 minutes of work this season. The only goal he allowed was on a penalty kick with 12 seconds remaining in regulation against Molloy. He has posted a .033 goals allowed average and save percentage through three games.
- The Warriors led 23-11 in shots, 10-4 on shots on goal and 6-2 on corner kicks.
- Four dolphins were charged with yellow cards, while ESU was slapped with a pair of yellow cards.
How it Happened:
- 1:42 | It took less than two minutes for ESU to get on the scoreboard, in its first game in 669 days at Eiler-Martin Stadium. Raymond settled a long pass and directed in the air straight to Marques' foot. The transfer from Camden County College fired a beautiful shot 25 yards out that beat the Dolphin keeper.
- 27:20 | Raymond would beat the Dolphins' Omer Hamzascebi to the lower right corner of the net to lift the Warriors to a 2-0 lead.
- 81:28 | After drawing a yellow card in the goal box, Raymond struck with his right foot to the lower-right pocket of the net for his fourth goal of the season in three games.
