Women’s Basketball Falls to Lock Haven in PSAC Action

EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team was unable to overcome a huge third quarter by Lock Haven as the Bald Eagles secured the 65-51 victory on Wednesday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Warriors drop to 1-12 overall and 0-10 in conference play while the Bald Eagles improve to 7-7 on the season and 4-6 in the PSAC.

With the victory, Lock Haven has now won four of their last five meetings against ESU.

ESU only found themselves training 31-25 at the break but after getting outscored in the third quarter 21-8 by Lock Haven, the Warriors' rally in the fourth was not enough to earn their first conference win of the season.

How It Happened

- It was all Lock Haven early on as the Bald Eagles raced out to a 11-4 lead before a three-pointer from Vogel got the Warriors within four points. Following the media timeout at the 4:42 mark, the teams traded buckets with Lock Haven just edging the Warriors to take a 22-16 lead after the first quarter.

- Both teams shot poorly to begin the second quarter which allowed the Warriors to claw their way back into the game only finding themselves trailing 25-23 after a pair of free throws by Corrin Gill. However, over the final 3:50 of the half, the Bald Eagles were able to outscore ESU 6-2 to take a 31-25 advantage into the break.

- Lock Haven found their grove to begin the second half, going on a 12-6 run which included five straight points before a layup by Ksiazek made the score 36-27. From that point on, the Bald Eagles would go on to outscore ESU 16-6 to take a 52-33 advantage into the final 10 minutes of play.

- The Warriors didn't go down without a fight to begin the fourth quarter as they scored eight consecutive points before the Bald Eagles broke a scoreless drought at the 6:13 mark to make the score 54-41. ESU would get within eight points with a little over three minutes remaining following a three-pointer by Rachel Capua but Lock Haven made their shots and free throws down the stretch to hang on for the 65-51 victory.
