EAST STROUDSBURG – Despite freshman Izzy Vogel (15 points, 12 rebounds) recording her first career double-double, the East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team fell to Gannon, 76-57, on Saturday at Koehler Fieldhouse.
The Warriors go to 1-13 on the season and 0-11 in the PSAC while the Golden Knights move to 12-2 overall and 7-2 in the conference.
Gannon, who led 29-15 after the first quarter, has now won nine of the last 10 meetings dating back to 2009.
Notables
- Vogel posted career-highs with 15 points and 12 rebounds to go along with three steals, two steals and a block
- Ryan Weise had an impressive stat line with 11 points, four rebounds, six assists and three steals
- Carley Adams matched her season-high with 10 points and grabbed two rebounds
- The Warriors finished 19-of-52 (36.5) from the field and hit a season-high 8-of-23 (34.3) attempts from beyond the arc
- Samantha Pirosko led the Golden Knights with a team-high 15 points while Delaney Dogan recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. McKel Nation (12 points) and Ali Benim (10 points) were also in double figures for Gannon.
- Gannon finished 30-of-63 (47.6) from the floor but only 3-of-15 (20.0) from the three point line
- The Golden Knights converted 13-of-19 (68.4) free throw attempts while the Warriors were 11-of-15 (73.3)
- Gannon held a significant advantage on points in the paint, outscoring the Warriors 50-14
How It Happened
- The Golden Knights raced out to a 9-3 lead, but the Warriors battled back despite a number of turnovers to cut their deficit to 15-11 at the media timeout. However, over the final 4:01, Gannon outscored ESU, 14-4, to take a 29-15 into advantage after the first quarter.
- Gannon continued their hot shooting to begin the second quarter as they scored eight of the first 10 points to extend their lead to 37-20 before a timeout by ESU. Out of the break, the Warriors and Golden Knights traded buckets which gave Gannon a 46-25 advantage at the half.
- ESU came out firing to begin the second half, using an 8-3 run to cut their deficit to 49-33 before a timeout by the Golden Knights. Gannon found their footing after the stoppage, outscoring the Warriors 13-8 over the last six minutes of the quarter to regain a 21-point lead at 62-41 headed into the final 10 minutes.
- The Warriors and Golden Knights went back and forth for the whole fourth quarter, with Gannon leading by no less than 19-points the entire way to hold on for the 76-57 victory.
