KANSAS CITY -- East Stroudsburg University football defensive end Deshawn McCarthy has picked up his second All-America honor of the offseason after being named to the D2Football.com Elite 100 First Team on Monday.
McCarthy has piled up accolades this offseason after recording 13 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss in 2021. His 13 quarterback takedowns behind the line of scrimmage are the most for a Warrior since 1992, and his 17.5 tackles for loss are the most by an ESU player since 2008.
To date, McCarthy has been selected to the All-PSAC East First Team, D2CCA Super Region 1 Second Team and AFCA All-America First Team and now the D2Football.Com Elite 100 First Team honor.
The Philadelphia native becomes the first defensive end and just the eighth Warrior to earn First Team All-America status from the organization. He becomes the 11th overall Warrior All-America selection from D2Football.com.
The D2Football.com Elite 100 was selected by the staff of D2football.com with input from coaches, scouts, media and sports information directors from around the country. The organization has compiled an Elite 100 team since its inception in 2000.
Among PSAC teams, only Shepherd quarterback Tyson Bagent (Offensive Player of the Year) joined McCarthy on the D2Football.comf First Team. IUP offensive lineman Josh Dauberman and Cal U kicker Anthony Beitko were honored on the second team. Slippery Rock's Henry Litwin and Chad Kuhn, West Chester linebacker Jackson Taylor and Cal U defensive back Jermal Martin Jr. were also recognized on the squad list.
