LOCK HAVEN – The East Stroudsburg University volleyball team picked up its second consecutive sweep in a PSAC East match, defeating Lock Haven on Saturday night inside Thomas Field House. The set scores were 25-17, 25-10, 25-22.
The Warriors defeat Lock Haven for the fifth consecutive time to improve to 10-8 on the season and now lead the PSAC East with a 4-1 mark after the weekend. The Bald Eagles drop to 1-15 overall and 1-4 in the league.
Notables vs. Lock Haven
- Freshman Anna Coulter finished with a team-high 10 kills on an impressive .500 hitting percentage to go along with two digs and blocks a piece
- Juniors Kaylee LoPresto and Sydney Stone combined for 15 kills and 18 digs
- Claire Choloux did a little bit of everything for ESU as the junior totaled four kills, four assists, seven digs and an ace
- Freshman Sydney Lewellin tallied double figures in assist with 18, while junior Makayla Baca did the same in digs (15)
- The Warriors outhit the Bald Eagles by a wide margin of .260 (38 kills, 12 errors) to .045 (26 kills, 21 errors). In the first two sets, ESU hit .351 and .346 respectively
- ESU had the advantage in blocks, 8-5, but Lock Haven recorded more aces, 5-4
How it Happened vs. Lock Haven
- It was back and forth to open the match as Lock Haven was in front early 9-6, before the Warriors tied it up at 10-10. ESU then caught fire, proceeding to go on a 9-0 run to jump in front 19-10 and ultimately earning a first set victory, 25-17, for a 1-0 lead in the match.
- Leading the Bald Eagles by one point, the Warriors used a 5-0 to spurt to stretch the edge to 10-4, and then scored five of the next six points to pull ahead by nine at 15-6. ESU would outscore Lock Haven, 10-4, the rest of the way to secure the set two win, 25-10.
- Lock Haven responded to begin the third set, racing ahead 4-0 and 8-3 before the Warriors rallied by scoring eight of the next 11 points to tie the frame at 11-11. The teams traded the next several points as ESU only lead by as many as two on several occasions (16-14, 18-16, 19-17), before edging the Bald Eagles, 6-5, over the remainder of the set to earn the victory (25-22) and sweep in the match.
