No. 3 Field Hockey Defeats Bloomsburg in Return to Whitenight Field

EAST STROUDSBURG – Playing a Whitenight Field for the first time in 38 days, the third-ranked East Stroudsburg University field hockey team defeated Bloomsburg, 3-0, on Wednesday afternoon in PSAC action.
Finding the back of the net for ESU was seniors Lia Parker and Hanna Lewis, as well as sophomore Allyson Forman.

The Warriors move to 9-1 on the season, 2-1 in the PSAC and defeat the Huskies for the seventh consecutive time, who fall to 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Yesterday, the Warriors dropped one spot to No. 3 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll after spending the previous three weeks at No. 2.

Notables
  • Parker got the scoring started less than 10 minutes into the game as the East Stroudsburg native notched her third goal of the season to put the Warriors up 1-0
  • Lewis moved into a tie for the team lead in goals as the senior found the back of the net for the sixth time this year at the 12:42 mark
  • Following a couple of deflections, Forman was able to get her stick on the ball for her second goal of the season, which pushed ESU's lead to 3-0 in the second half
  • Senior Madison Kline tallied her third assist of the year on the goal from Forman
  • Junior goalkeeper Amy Supey was busy in net this afternoon, recording a season-high six saves on her way to her second shutout of the year. Supey continues to lead the PSAC and NCAA DII with a 0.25 goals-against average and 0.905 save percentage.
  • ESU held an edge over Bloomsburg in shots (13-7) and shots on goal (11-6), but the Huskies held the advantage in penalty corners (8-4)
  • In her 38th season, head coach Sandy Miller collected her 468th career victory today, now needing 19 more to move into third all-time in Division II
How it Happened

8:56 | Streaking down the field with a Bloomsburg defender on her hip, Parker was able to create space before blasting a rising shot over the head of the Huskies' goalkeeper to put the Warriors ahead 1-0

12:42 | The Warriors took advantage of their first penalty corner of the game as Lewis was able to corral a loose ball in the middle of the shooting circle before blasting a low shot into the bottom right corner of the net to stretch ESU's advantage to 2-0

40:44 | Just looking to get the ball into the Huskies' offensive zone, sophomore Jady van Gils sent an initial pass that redirected off the stick of Kline, before Forman was able to get a piece off the ball which ultimately resulted in the Warriors' third goal of the game
