Volleyball Downs Millersville for Fourth Consecutive Victory

EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University volleyball team won its fourth consecutive PSAC East match as the Warriors swept Millersville on Saturday afternoon inside Koehler Fieldhouse. The set scores were 25-19, 25-16, 25-17.

ESU moves to 12-8 on the season, 6-1 in the PSAC East and earn their third straight win over the Marauders, who slip to 12-9 overall and 3-4 in the conference.

The Warriors hosted their second annual Soles4Souls match which is a non-profit organization that turns unwanted shoes and clothing into opportunity, by keeping them from going to waste and putting them to good use – providing relief, creating jobs and empowering people to break the cycle of poverty.

Fans are encouraged to bring a pair of shoes to the various donation boxes set up around well campus through the end of the month.

Notables vs. Millersville
  • Junior Claire Choloux paced the Warriors in kills for the second straight match, finishing with 10 as well as four digs, two assists and a block
     
  • Anna Coulter added double figures in kills as well with 10 to go along with four blocks and two aces
     
  • Redshirt junior Kaylee LoPresto was just shy of a double-double as she tallied nine kills, 10 digs, three blocks, two assists and a pair of aces
     
  • Junior Sydney Stone produced another solid match for ESU with seven kills and 15 digs
     
  • Makayla Baca record her 18th match this season with double digit digs as the junior recorded 19
     
  • Freshman Sydney Lewellin had six kills, 19 assists and three digs, while sophomore Makaela McComas was in double figures for assists with 20 to go along with five digs
     
  • The Warriors outhit the Marauders by a wide margin of .327 (48 kills, 11 errors) to .078 (29 kills, 20 errors). The .327 attack percentage was the highest by ESU this season
     
  • ESU doubled up Millersville in blocks, 12-6, but the Marauders held the slim edge in aces, 6-5
How it Happened vs. Millersville
  • Millersville held a three point lead on several occasions to open the first set (6-3, 7-4, 8-5, 9-6), until the Warriors were able to even the score at 10-10. With the Marauders pulling ahead 16-13, ESU went on a 7-0 run to jump in front 20-16. The Warriors proceeded to outscore Millersville 6-3 the rest of the way to secure a 25-19 set one win.
     
  • With the score tied at 3-3 to begin the second set, ESU tallied five of the next seven points to grab an 8-5 lead. Out of a Millersville timeout, the Marauders pulled within two at 12-10, but not before the Warriors used a 4-0 spurt with the help of three kills to regain a six point edge at 16-10. Millersville would only be able to cut their deficit to as little as five the rest of the way (16-11, 18-13, 19-14), as the Warriors outscored the Marauders, 9-6, to capture a 25-16 set two victory for a 2-0 lead in the match.
     
  • With Millersville leading 6-5 in the final set, the Warriors scored six of the next seven points to go ahead 11-7. However, the Marauders answered right back with a 6-0 run to regain a 13-11 edge which was quickly erased by three straight points from ESU, who went back up 14-13. With Millersville then leading by one, the Warriors proceeded to score eight of the next nine points to pull away from the Marauders, 22-16. ESU would ultimately close out the set, 25-17, for their third sweep in the last four matches.
