SEATTLE, Wash. – At the opening ceremony for the 2022 Division II Fall Championships Festival, the East Stroudsburg University field hockey team was honored for having the top cumulative grade-point average, the NCAA announced on Tuesday.
The Warriors garnered the Team GPA Award after maintaining a collective GPA of 3.584.
"While I was very excited for us to win the conference championship and have the opportunity for our team to travel to Seattle for the NCAA Championships, it's more importantly to be as successful in the classroom," said head coach Sandy Miller.
ESU has previously earned four NCAA Elite 90 Award winners (Hannah Barbush – 2021, Lexi Hartmann – 2018, Sydney McCarthy – 2015 & 2017), but tonight marked the first time they received the team honors.
Last spring, 23 student-athletes were honored as PSAC Scholar Athlete, including Nicole Krozser, Grace Lesh, Maddy Barbush, Allyson Forman, Emma Valinote, Amy Supey, Lia Parker, Morgan Mesenbrink, Emily Mehnert, Grace Hoelbinger, Lisa Larsson, Karlie McClosky, Jady van Gils, Olivia Breen and Hanna Lewis, who are currently members of this year's team.
After getting the first-round bye, the top-seeded Warriors are slated to battle No. 4 Assumption on Thursday at 2 p.m. (5 p.m. EST) in the NCAA Semifinals from Renton Memorial Stadium.
