ESU Lacrosse to Host Game Hair Havoc Campaign, Alyssa Oxenford Memorial Game on April 23

EAST STROUDSBURG -- The East Stroudsburg University lacrosse team announced that the Warriors are hosting a Game Hair Havoc campaign to raise money for the HEADstrong Foundation. Game Hair Havoc empowers athletes to use their creative hair styles and braids to show solidarity and support for patients who have lost their hair due to the side effects of cancer treatment. ESU will participate in its Game Hair Havoc game on April 23 against Shepherd.

The April 23 Game against Shepherd will also serve as the fifth annual Alyssa Oxenford Memorial Game. Alyssa Oxenford an ESU women's lacrosse student-athlete, passed away in August 2015 from leukemia following her junior season at ESU. A three-year starter, the Warriors have worn orange headbands and have Alyssa's #7 patch on their sleeve in memory of Oxenford.  

"Remembering Alyssa is an important part of the history and legacy of this program," said ESU head coach Xeni Barakos-Yoder.  "Though current team members have never met her, they honor her and can relate to someone in their lives having cancer. The Game Hair Havoc Campaign and all the work Headstrong does is life changing to those families who receive the foundations help. We hope you can donate to the cause in Alyssa's memory."

Game Hair Havoc is an interactive online fundraiser encouraging student-athletes to STYLE their HAIR and RAISE money to HELP families Game Hair Havoc was created by former USA lacrosse player Stephanie Finley while undergoing treatment for cancer. Marketed around Her passion for the game, she believed that game hair was a great way to make a difference while paying tribute to HEADstrong founder Nicholas Colleluori.

The HEADstrong Foundation is proud to offer Nick's House, a guest family residence for those in the pursuit of lifesaving cancer treatment.  Nick's House relieves families of more than $1,500,000 by providing more than 2,500 complimentary nights of amenities, lodging and support annually.

ESU has currently raised the 12th most money of 57 lacrosse teams participating in the campaign.

HEADstrong's mission is: "We are relentless in improving quality of life for those affected by cancer. With every action that we make, we are fulfilling the vision of the late Nicholas Colleluori, our founder. Nick's last wish was that others would benefit from his journey"

Established in 2007, HEADstrong has assisted nearly 20,000 cancer patients and families by raising over 22 million dollars.
