EAST STROUDSBURG – After a historic season of pressuring the opposing quarterback this past fall, East Stroudsburg University football defensive end Deshawn McCarthy has been named to the Lindy's Sports 2022 All-Division II First Team.
The Philadelphia native registered 13 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss in 2021. His sack total was the most for a Warrior since 1992 and his TFL mark were the most by an ESU student-athlete since 2008.
McCarthy collected numerous postseason accolades including All-PSAC East First Team, D2CCA Super Region 1 Second Team, AFCA All-America First Team and D2Football.com Elite 100 First Team.
The senior has accumulated 19 career sacks and 24.5 tackles for loss. He ranks ninth all-time at ESU and trails all-time leader Des Hussey and Bill Camp by 14 sacks with two seasons of eligibility remaining.
The PSAC was well represented on the preseason All-America list. Joining McCarthy on the first team include California (Pa.) kicker Anthony Beitko and defensive back Jermal Martin Jr. On the second team, PSAC honorees include Shepherd quarterback Tyson Bagent, IUP wide receiver Duane Brown, Slippery Rock defensive lineman Jeff Marx, West Chester linebacker Jackson Taylor and Seton Hill defensive back Damonte Pratt.
ESU opens the 2022 season on the road at Pace on Thursday, September 1.
