Women’s Soccer to Open Season against Dominican

EAST STROUDSBURG – On Thursday, the East Stroudsburg University women’s soccer team opens the 2022-23 ESU athletics calendar with a matchup against Dominican at 4:00 p.m. inside Eiler-Martin Stadium.

Who’s Back: Mirthe Bos returns as an all-conference second team selection at defender. Other returning starters include Rebecca Kotula, Caitlin Norwood, Brienn Seaman, Natalie Schooley, Mikayla Moats, Ella Connolly, Teagan Marshall and Millie Smith. Evencia Welsh, who started in six games, also returns.  

Who’s Not: Haley Skove, a four-time All-PSAC selection, along with goalkeeper Mauri Jackson, who earned All-PSAC East First Team honors in 2021 have graduated.  

Who’s New: A total of 12 newcomers join the Warriors, featuring 10 freshman and a pair of transfers. Transfers include Carina Gasparini (Sussex County Community College) and Tia Sheehy (Wagner). Last season, Gasparini was voted the NJCAA Women's DII Region XIX Player of the Year and to the NJCAA DII All-America First Team.

The Coach: Head Coach Rob Berkowitz enters his 15th season coaching the Warrior women, holding a record of 173-88-27. The all-time wins leader at ESY has guided ESU to four PSAC Titles (2014, 2015, 2015, 2017) and to seven of the programs eight NCAA Tournament appearances.

Non-Conference Schedule: It will be a quick non-conference slate for ESU, with tests against Dominican and Felician this weekend, before opening the PSAC slate at Mansfield on Sat., Sept 3.

Postseason: Following the regular season, the PSAC Tournament is set to begin on Nov. 1. The top-four seeds in each division will qualify for the tournament, with the top-seed in the Western Division hosting the semifinals and championship match. The Warriors hope to secure its ninth NCAA Tournament berth and its seventh selection over the past nine seasons. With it being an NCAA Division II National Championship Festival Year, the NCAA Semifinals and NCAA Championships will be located in Seattle.
