EAST STROUDSBURG – Four first half goals helped the East Stroudsburg University men's soccer team snap a three-game losing skid, defeating Shepherd, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
The Warriors (2-3, 1-0-0) open the conference slate with a victory, while the Rams (1-2-2, 0-1) drop their first PSAC matchup of the season.
2021 All-PSAC First Teamer Colby Raymond found the back of the net twice for his first two goals of the year. Also adding goals were Ignasi Cucurella and Ethan Flickinger for the Warriors.
Notables
- Three Warriors posted assists, including Stelios Melekos, Trevor Paone and Flickinger.
- The stout Warrior defense held Shepherd to just three total shots and just a single shot on goal. In total, the Warriors outshot the Rams, 30-3.
- ESU led 6-4 on corner kicks.
- In goal, freshmen Brayden Evans and Helgi Hermannsson split halves. Hermmanson stopped the lone shot on goal for ESU. Billy Wood made seven saves for the Rams.
How It Happened
- 4' | Melekos was able to redirect a crossing pass right to Paone, as the freshman was able to take a one-time shot to the right of the Shepherd goalkeeper.= for his
- 18' | Flickinger sent a long cross to the far side, with Melekos putting an head on it. Raymond was able to quickly gain possession and put a shot in the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
- 28' | Off a throw in, Raymond was to play the ball off the bounce and fire a shot in the far top-right corner on a pretty shot to give an ESU a 2-0 advantage
- 42' | Cucurella passed towards the center of the offensive zone to Amado. Amado flipped a high, short pass over the Rams' defenders' heads. With no defenders directly in front, Cucurella was able to fire a quick shot identical to Raymond's second goal location.
