GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The second-ranked East Stroudsburg field hockey team continued its month-long road trip with a 5-0 shutout over Adelphi on Wednesday afternoon at Motamed Field.
The Warriors improve to 6-0 on the year, outscoring their opponents 24-1, while the Panthers drop to 1-4 overall after facing their fifth nationally ranked team.
Yesterday, ESU jumped to No. 2 in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll after ranking third since the preseason poll.
Notables
- With 53 seconds remaining in the first quarter, senior Madison Kline scored the game's first goal to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead
- Kline found the back of the net for the second time on the afternoon at the 31:32 mark in the third quarter for her fourth goal of the season
- Later in the period, senior Nicole Krozser continued her hot start, recording her team-high fifth goal of the season to put the Warriors ahead 3-0
- After missing the last two games, senior Hanna Lewis returned to score her second goal of the year just 41 seconds into the final quarter
- Redshirt junior Karaline Stelma capped off the scoring for the Warriors with her first goal of the season to make the final score 5-0
- Sophomore Allyson Forman and Kline each notched their second assists of the year while sophomore Jady van Gils picked up her first assist
- Playing in 50 minutes, junior goalkeeper Amy Supey made one save to extend her shutout streak to 299:60 minutes. Junior Emma Valinote kept the Panthers off the board over the final 10 minutes to record ESU's sixth shutout.
- Adelphi's goalkeeper Mirthe Karstenswith totaled 12 saves which is the fifth double-digit effort by opponent against the Warriors this season. ESU is now outshooting their opponents, 166-25
- ESU had an advantage over Adelphi in shots (29-3), shots on goal (17-1) and penalty corners (10-4)
- In her 38th season, head coach Sandy Miller collected her 465th career victory, needing 22 more to move into third all-time in Division II
