Women’s Basketball Routes Mansfield, 74-41

EAST STROUDSBURG – By scoring a season-high 74 points, the East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team routed Mansfield, 74-41, at Koehler Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors pushed their record to 8-5 overall and 4-3 in the PSAC East while also defeating Mansfield for the 18th time in the last 19 meetings as the Mounties fall to 1-10 on the season and 0-7 in the conference.

ESU took control of the game mid-way through the first quarter when the Warriors used a 13-0 run over the final 4:54 to take a 22-9 lead. The spurt continued through the second quarter as the Warriors ultimately outscored the Mounties, 37-8, over a 14:54 stretch for a 46-17 advantage at the break.

  • Ryan Weise poured in a game-high 11 points to go with four rebounds, five assists and a steal
     
  • Weise continued to close in on the single season record for three pointers made of 63 by Maryellen Onofre (2005-06) as the graduate student now has 49 makes
     
  • Bianca Giordano notched a career-high 10 points (4-of-4) while adding a pair of boards and an assist
     
  • Junior Leah Pishock scored a season-high nine points while fellow classmate Gwenn Sabato added eight points, a career-high six rebounds and two steals
     
  • Corrin Gill did a little bit of everything for the Warriors as the sophomore finished with seven points, three rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals
     
  • Sophomore Izzy Vogel and graduate student Shyla Sanford each contributed six points while combining for six rebounds
     
  • The Warriors converted 27-of-61 (44.3%) from the field, 9-of-21 (42.9%) from three point territory and 11-of-20 (55.0%) from the stripe
     
  • Additionally, all 13 players that saw action for the Warriors scored at least one point
     
  • Mansfield was held in check all afternoon, shooting 13-of-49 (26.5%) overall and 2-of-15 (13.3%) from beyond the arc. The Mounties converted their free throws by going 13-of-17 (76.5%)
     
  • The Mounties had one player in double figures as Alivia Paeglow tallied 11 points. The Warriors held Mansfield's leading scorer, Jasmine Hilton, to a season-low four points to go along with nine rebounds.
     
  • ESU had the edge over the Mounties in rebounds (45-29), assists (17-9), steals (9-7), blocks (3-0), points in the paint (32-22) and bench points (41-17)
     
  • The Warriors now hold a 64-17 advantage over Mansfield in the all-time series
     
  • Today's victory marked the first 30+ point win for the Warriors since Jan. 6, 2018 against Lock Haven (91-60)
How It Happened
  • It was back and forth to open the game as the teams were tied at 9-9 at the 4:54 mark after both going 4-of-7 from the field. However, the Warriors took control from there, using a 13-0 run which included a trio of three pointers to mount a 22-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
     
  • The Warriors kept their foot on the gas in the second quarter, using a 13-4 run to open the period which extended their advantage to 35-13 headed into the media timeout. Out of the break, ESU would score 11 of the next 15 points to push their lead to 46-17 at the half.
     
  • Neither team could find an offensive rhythm to begin the second half as the Mounties edged the Warriors, 6-5, to make the score 51-23 at the 4:59 mark. ESU would get three pointers from Giordano and Claire Courter during the remainder of the third quarter to grow their lead to 57-26.
     
  • Back-to-back layups from Giordano to start the fourth quarter gave the Warriors their biggest lead of the afternoon at 61-26, but the Mounties made the score 63-32 going into the final media break.  The teams would trade buckets over the final 4:32 of the game as the Warriors earned a 74-41 victory over Mansfield.
