Warriors Match Program-Record for Consecutive Shutouts in Scoreless Draw with Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The East Stroudsburg University women's soccer team battled Bloomsburg to a 0-0 scoreless tie and matched its program record for consecutive shutouts with its fifth-straight clean sheet on Wednesday night at Steph Pettit Stadium.

The Warriors (9-1-2, 7-1-2 PSAC East) extend its unbeaten streak to eight consecutive contests in the tie. The Huskies (4-3-3, 4-4-4 PSAC East) move ahead of Millersville for fourth place in the PSAC East with the draw.

Notables
  • With its fifth consecutive shutout, ESU has matched its shutout streak of five consecutive matchups for the fourth time in program history, accomplishing the feat in 1993, 2014 and most recently in 2016. ESU looks to set a new record at Shepherd on Saturday.
  • Warrior goalkeeper Emmy Clarkson (9-1-2) made three saves in the complete 90-minute performance. The sophomore from Frederick, Md. has played in all 1080 minutes on the season, allowing just four goals in that span while making 38 saves. She extends her scoreless streak to 529 minutes, not allowing a score since Sept. 23 in the 11th minute against Millersville. Clarkson has been named the PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week on three consecutive occasions and four times overall. She lowers her already PSAC-leading goals-against average to .33 and her save percentage to 0.905.
  • Clarkson has led the Warrior defense to nine shutouts in 12 matches in 2023 and is tied with her assistant coach Mauri Jackson (2x) and Jules Harris (2016) for the second most solo shutouts in a single season. She now only trails Harris' 11 solo shutout campaigns in 2017. Clarkson's 14 career shutouts is tied for fifth all-time with Janice Turcio's (2007-08) 14 clean sheets.
  • Both teams recorded 12 shots, with ESU's seven on goal leading the game. The Huskies countered with three shots on goal. The Warriors earned all four corner kicks in the match.
  • The chippy contest featured 28 fouls and four yellow cards, all occurring over the final 34 minutes of action. BU was asses three times, with ESU's Nia Chinapoo being tagged with the first yellow card of the contest in the 56th minute of action.
  • Bloomsburg goalkeeper Riley Spingler made seven saves in the shutout performance.
  • ESU now sits behind first-place Kutztown (9-0-3, 8-0-2) by three points (26-23) and leads third-place West Chester (7-3-1, 7-3) by two points.
