Volleyball Collects 10th-Straight Win with Sweep of Lock Haven

EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg University volleyball team picked up its 10th straight victory as the Warriors swept Lock Haven in a PSAC East match on Friday night inside Koehler Fieldhouse.

The Warriors improved to 13-5 overall and 6-0 in the conference with the 25-10, 25-15, 25-14 win, while the Bald Eagles dropped to 8-6 on the season and 3-3 in the PSAC East.

The 10-game win streak by ESU matches the mark from the 2021 season with the Warriors knocking off seven opponents in straight sets during the stretch.

With a match-high 18 digs, senior libero Makayla Baca eclipsed the 1,000 mark for her career as the Fanta Fe, N.M. native has totaled 778 and counting for the Warriors as well as 228 in two seasons at Montana State Billings.



Notables vs. Lock Haven
  • Anna Coulter produced a monster stat line in three sets as the sophomore totaled multiple match-highs with 13 kills, five blocks and five aces to go along with a .579 hitting percentage
  • Graduate student Claire Choloux added seven kills, two digs and two blocks
  • Seniors Sydney Stone and Kaylee LoPresto each had seven kills and six digs while Stone added three blocks
  • Sophomore Taylor Haan finished with 34 assists, eight digs, two blocks and an ace
  • Evie Jane Rembold totaled a team-high five kills for Bloomsburg while Kelly Gaston added 19 assists and seven digs
  • ESU held an impressive advantage in hitting percentage, .326--.010, as well as the edge in both blocks (9-2) and aces (9-3)
  • The Warriors have knocked off Lock Haven in the last seven meetings dating back to 2019, but the Bald Eagles maintained a 33-15 edge in the all-time series
How it Happened vs. Lock Haven
  • With the Bald Eagles leading 2-1 to begin the match, ESU ripped off an 8-0 run with three aces and one kill to pull ahead 9-2. After the teams went back and forth over the next five points, the Warriors scored six straight to extend their advantage to 17-5. ESU outpaced Lock Haven by three points the remainder of the way, earning a 25-10 set one victory to grab a 1-0 edge in the match.
     
  • Lock Haven found themselves ahead 3-2 in the second set until the Warriors scored 14 of the next 15 points, which included a 9-0 spurt, to pull in front 15-4. The Bald Eagles clawed their way with a 7-1 run to trim the deficit to 16-11, but ESU answered back with a 6-0 run to regain a 22-11 lead. ESU ultimately wrapped up the set, 25-15, to secure a 2-0 advantage in the match.
     
  • With the score deadlocked at 3-3 to start the final set, the Warriors produced 12 of the next 18 points with the help of eight kills to take a 15-9 lead. The Bald Eagles got within as close as four points at 17-14, but ESU closed out the set on a 8-1 spurt to complete the sweep, 25-14
