Warriors Defeat Bloomsburg in Straight Sets to Stretch Win Streak to 11

EAST STROUDSBURG – The East Stroudsburg volleyball team grinded out its 11th victory in a row after defeating Bloomsburg in straight sets, 25-23, 25-22, 25-20, on Saturday afternoon in a PSAC East match at Koehler Fieldhouse.

The 11-match win streak by ESU is the longest since 1996 when the Warriors opened up the campaign with 27 straight victories.

ESU finished the first half of the PSAC East schedule with a perfect 7-0 record and moved to 14-5 on the season. The Huskies stumbled to 7-12 overall and 3-4 in the conference.

Since Bloomsburg's inaugural season in 2018, ESU has defeated the Huskies in all nine meetings which includes five in straight sets.

Notables vs. Bloomsburg
  • Graduate student Claire Choloux and sophomore Anna Coulter each had a match-high 10 kills while combining for two digs, a block and an ace
  • Junior Taylor Haan recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 28 assists and 10 digs to go along with five kills, two aces and a block
  • Redshirt senior Kaylee LoPresto notched a season-high 19 digs as well as six kills, two assists, one block and an ace
  • Makayla Baca registered a match-high 19 digs and two aces as the graduate student continued to close in on 1,000 for her ESU career with 797 and counting. Junior Makaela McComas added eight digs and trio of aces.
  • For Bloomsburg, Emily Jackson led the Huskies with eight kills while Elise Adelman (16), Allison Saalfrank (13) and Tayla Miller (13) each had double figure digs
  • The Warriors outhit Bloomsburg (.165-.120) and had more aces (9-5), but the Huskies held the advantage in blocks (6-3)
How it Happened vs. Bloomsburg
  • The Warriors scored the first three points of the match and stretched the lead to 7-2 until Bloomsburg answered with six of the next seven to tie it at 8-8. ESU answered with a 6-2 spurt to regain a four-point edge at 14-10, and after Bloomsburg trimmed the deficit to 15-13, the Warriors scored four straight points to jump ahead 19-13. The Huskies settled in after a timeout, ripping off a 7-0 run to pull in front 20-19, but ESU outscored Bloomsburg the rest of the way, 6-3, to earn the first set victory (25-23) and a 1-0 lead.
     
  • It was back and forth at the beginning of the second set as the score was tied on numerous occasions (1-1, 2-2, 4-4, 5-5, 9-9, 11-11) until three consecutive kills by Bloomsburg gave the Huskies a 14-11 advantage. The Huskies pushed the lead to 17-12 out of an ESU timeout, but the Warriors battled back with a 4-0 run to draw within one point. Bloomsburg would score three of the next four points to go up 20-17, but following ESU's second timeout, the Warriors closed out the set on an 8-2 spurt (25-22) to grab a 2-0 edge.
     
  • ESU jumped out ahead 4-1 to start the final set and maintained at least a one-point lead over Bloomsburg until the Warriors used three Huskies' attack errors and an ace to pull ahead 16-10. The Huskies wouldn't go down without a fight, producing an 8-3 run to pull within one point (19-18), but ESU scored six of the final eight points in the set to finish off the sweep, 25-20.
