PHILADELPHIA – The East Stroudsburg volleyball team extended its win streak to 12 as the Warriors swept Holy Family, 25-17, 25-17, 25-20, on Thursday evening inside the Campus Center.
Play its final non-conference game of the regular season, ESU improved to 15-5 overall while the Tigers dropped to 6-16 on the year.
ESU collected their second straight win over Holy Family and pushed their record to 6-5 all-time against the Tigers.
Notables vs. Holy Family
- Graduate student Claire Choloux registered a match-high 11 kills to go along with five digs, three block assists, one assist and an assist
- Anna Coulter notched nine kills on a .438 hitting percentage while the sophomore added three digs, three aces and pair of block assists
- Junior Taylor Haan contributed a game-high 26 assists, three kills, four blocks, two blocks and an ace
- Reigning PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week Makayla Baca registered a match-high 20 digs, two assists and an ace as the graduate student continued to near 1,000 for her ESU career with 817 and counting
- Ava Kidd led Holy Family with six kills, four digs and three blocks while Shelby Kinzer added five kills, three digs and a pair of blocks
- ESU finished with 16 blocks, led by sophomore Ava Hunt with five block assists, which was tied for the second most in a match this season and held the Tigers to a -.017 hitting percentage, the lowest by an opponent this season. ESU finished with a .200 hitting percentage and held the edge in aces, 7-6.
How it Happened vs. Holy Family
- With the score tied at 3-3, the Warriors produced a 7-3 run with three errors, two kills and an ace to grab a 10-6 advantage. It went back and forth over the next nine points as ESU maintained a five-point lead at 15-10, until the Tigers ripped off a 3-0 run to pull within two (15-13). ESU answered by scoring four of the next five points to extend the lead back to 19-14. Following a timeout from Holy Family, it was all ESU the rest of the set as the Warriors outscored the Tigers, 6-3, to earn a 25-17 victory.
- ESU carried over momentum into the second set, scoring the first five points using four kills to take a 5-0 lead. After a timeout, Holy Family cut the deficit to 6-3 until the Warriors went on a 6-1 spurt to stretch the edge to 12-4. ESU kept their foot on the gas, taking a 10-point lead at 16-6 before the Tigers ripped off a 5-0 run to make the score 16-11. The Warriors settled back in by going on a 6-3 run to regain a 22-14 advantage, before ultimately closing out the set, 25-17, for a 2-0 edge in the match.
- After Holy Family grabbed a 2-1 lead, the Warriors used a 7-1 run, which included five straight points to pull ahead 8-3. The Tigers settled in after a timeout, scoring six unanswered points to secure a 9-8 lead. ESU battled back with two straight attack errors but three consecutive points by Holy Family helped the Tigers maintain a 12-10 edge. The Warriors responded with a with a 7-2 run to go back up 17-14. Holy Family trimmed their deficit to 17-16, but ESU produced a 5-0 run to build a comfortable lead at 22-16. The Tigers got as close as three points at 23-20, but the Warriors finished off the sweep, 25-20.
