LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Following shutout wins against Lock Haven and Shippensburg, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference announced on Monday afternoon that East Stroudsburg University women's soccer's Carina Gasparini and Emmy Clarkson were honored with PSAC East weekly honors.
Gasparini was named the PSAC East Athlete of the Week, while Clarkson was tabbed the PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week and the third time this season.
Gasparini registered a pair of impressive goals in a 2-0 win over Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon. The native of Austria came off the bench and delivered with a goal during the 29th minute of action. She added insurance to the Warriors' lead with a goal during the 75th minute for her fourth goal of the season. She is now tied for the team lead with Natalie Schooley with four goals on the season and ranks second with eight points for the Warriors. It's the seniors' first PSAC East Athlete of the Week honor of her career.
Clarkson secured her fifth and sixth clean sheets of the season with a save against the Bald Eagles and two saves against the Raiders in the pair of shutouts. The native of Frederick, Md. lowered her PSAC leading goals-against average to .444 and raised her shutouts per game average to .667. Clarkson's six shutouts are tied for seventh in a single season in program history. Her 11 career shutouts are tied with Samantha Marina (2004-07) and Lindsay Vandergrift (2000-03) for sixth among Warriors all-time.
Clarkson's defensive athlete of the week honor is the fifth of her career, which is tied with ESU Hall of Famer Terri Meierhofer for (1994-97) for the most in program history.
Gasparini, Clarkson and the rest of the Warriors head to Mansfield on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., before returning to Eiler-Martin Stadium for Homecoming against West Chester on Sat., Oct. 7th at 11:30 a.m.
