Women’s Cross Country Finishes Fourth at PSAC Championships; Three Warriors Garner All-PSAC Honors

10/21/2023 5:01:00 PM

BLOOMSBURG – Led by a historic finish from freshman Bri Hennett, the East Stroudsburg University women's cross country team took fourth at the 2023 PSAC Championships on Saturday morning from the BU Cross Country Course.

Despite being picked 11th in the PSAC Preseason Poll, the fourth place finish by the Warriors marked the highest since 2017 when ESU took sixth.

Hennett continued her outstanding freshman campaign as the Northumberland native took fifth overall to earn First Team All-PSAC honors. Running in the 6K race, Hennett clocked a time of 22:50.6 and produced the highest finish by a first-year student in program history. The previous best finish was Tina Vosper taking seventh at the 1995 PSAC Championships.

Holly Chambers turned it up a gear down the stretch as the graduate student finished in 26th place with a time of 24:19.4, while freshman Carla Bautista was not far behind in 29th after crossing the line in 24:30.2, as the duo both earned All-PSAC Second Team honors.

Today marked the first time since the 2020-21 season that ESU produced three All-PSAC performances and just the second time since 2017.

Rounding out the scoring for ESU was freshman Payton Falkenstein in 35th with a time of 24:41.9, while sophomore Megan Elgrim was nine spots behind in 56th at 25:57.7. A trio of freshmen impressed in their conference championship debut, led by Kiera Wimbush (24:59.8) in 50th, followed by Mia Sisilli (25:02.4) and Gabriela Orama (25:07.7), finishing 52nd and 54th respectively.

Also representing the Warriors at the conference championships was junior Alycia Smith (112th – 26:34.6), sophomore Kelly Martin (121st – 26:51.2) and junior Jada Williams (159th – 29:34.5).
