LOCK HAVEN – The East Stroudsburg University volleyball team completed the season sweep of Lock Haven and pushed its winning streak to 14 straight as the Warriors cruised to a sweep over the Bald Eagles in a PSAC East match (25-15, 25-20, 25-23) on Friday evening at Thomas Fieldhouse.
The Warriors, who have now defeated the Bald Eagles (9-8, 4-5 PSAC East) in the last eight meetings, which includes seven consecutive in straight sets, remained a perfect 9-0 in the PSAC and improved their record to 17-5 on the season.
During the 14-match win streak, ESU has taken down 11 opponents in straight sets including the last six the Warriors have faced.
Notables vs. Lock Haven
- Anna Coulter lived up to her PSAC Athlete of the Week honors as the sophomore finished with 10 kills, three digs, three blocks and a .529 hitting percentage (17 attacks, 1 error)
- Senior Kaylee LoPresto added nine kills, six digs and one block while fellow classmate Sydney Stone totaled seven kills and three blocks
- Graduate student Claire Choloux contributed four kills, eight digs and a pair of blocks
- Sophomore Taylor Haan registered 29 assists, eight digs, three aces, three blocks and a kill
- Senior Makayla Baca notched a match-high 12 digs to go along with three assists and three aces as the Santa Fe, New Mexico native continued to near 1,000 digs for her ESU career with 838 and counting
- Alyssa Daley paced Lock Haven with a match-high 12 kills and Kelly Gaston added four kills, 32 assists, seven digs and a block
- The Warriors finished with an efficient .308 hitting percentage (35 kills, 7 errors) and held the Bald Eagles to a .130 clip (40 kills, 24 errors). ESU out blocked Lock Haven 9-1, which included five from sophomore Ava Hunt, and held the slim advantage in aces, 7-6
How it Happened vs. Lock Haven
- With ESU ahead 6-2 to start the match, the Bald Eagles scored three straight points to pull with in one, but the Warriors answered with two kills and an ace to regain a 9-5 lead. Lock Haven got as close as 10-7 but not before ESU produced an 8-2 run to push their advantage to 18-9. The teams proceeded to swap points the rest of the set with the Warriors earning a 25-15 victory for a 1-0 edge.
- Lock Haven grabbed a 4-1 lead to begin the second set until the Warriors settled in with a 11-3 run which included five kills to jump in front 12-7. The Bald Eagles trimmed the deficit to 13-11 and after ESU held a 17-13 lead, Lock Haven cut the score to one point on numerous occasions at 17-16, 18-17, 19-18 and 20-19. ESU would close out the set strong as the Warriors proceeded to score five of the final six points (25-20) to secure a 2-0 lead in the match.
- It was back and forth to start the third set as ESU held a slim lead at 9-8 until the Warriors went on an 8-1 spurt with the help of five Lock Haven miscues to go ahead 16-8. Lock Haven slowly clawed back as the Bald Eagles cut the deficit to four points at 18-14, 19-15, 20-16, 21-17 and 22-18 before a 4-0 spurt made the score 23-22. A timeout by ESU help the Warriors close out the match at 25-23 for the sleep.
