EAST STROUDSBURG – After a 2-0 start to the season, with wins over Lincoln (Pa.) and Elizabeth City State at the Harbor of Hospitality Classic, the Division II College Sports Communicators (D2CSC) announced on Wednesday that the East Stroudsburg University men's basketball team vaulted to second in the D2CSC Atlantic Region and No. 15 in the D2CSC National Poll.
The Warriors (2-0) began the season at No. 5 in the regional poll, but with two wins and losses from IUP, Charleston, and Mercyhurst, ESU jumps to second behind reigning national runner-up West Liberty, who earned all six first-place votes.
ESU opened the season with an 81-74 overtime win over Lincoln (PA), outscoring the Lions 14-7 in overtime to capture the win. The Warriors completed the perfect opening weekend by holding off a late run from ECSU in a 84-78 victory over the tournament-host Vikings.
Four Warriors have averaged double figures in scoring through two games in
Tyshawn Trail (15.0 ppg),
Nasir Griffin (12 ppg),
Cam Young (11.5 ppg) and
Jaelen McGlone (11.0 ppg), with
Justin Paz (9.0 ppg) right behind. Off the glass, All-PSAC East forward
Lakeem McAliley (8.5 rpg) led the way, along with a team-best five steals, which ranks third nationally.
Shamir Johnson and
Davon Lee each distributed five assists.
On the docket for the Warriors this week are road trips to Molloy (Wed., Nov. 15, 7:00 p.m.) and D'Youville (Nov. 25, 3:00 p.m.).
