EAST STROUDSBURG – For the second-time this season, East Stroudsburg University pitcher
Paige Zigmund was acknowledged as one of the best pitchers in the region, after being named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Region First Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Entering the NCAA Super Regional, Zigmund holds a 2.08 ERA, breaking single season program records in wins (24-5) and strikeouts (178), while holding foes to a .226 batting average in 188.2 inning pitched this campaign. In 26 of her 31 appearances, she has allowed three runs or less, totaling six shutouts.
Zigmund's exceptional pitching has extended to the NCAA Tournament, where the Bethlehem native has logged 19 innings, recording an ERA of 0.74 while holding opponents to a .179 batting average, not allowing an extra-base hit during last week's regional. Zigmund struck out 18 combined batters in wins over Bowie State, West Chester and West Virginia Wesleyan, while issuing just two walks.
In 17 appearances at Creekview Park this season, Zigmund holds a 1.02 ERA in Stroudsburg, with just 66 hits allowed in 103 innings, striking out 102 batters while allowing just 15 walks, boasting an impressive 15-1 record.
To date, Zigmund has earned PSAC East Pitcher of the Week (3x), PSAC East Pitcher of the Year, All-PSAC East First Team, NFCA All-Region First Team and now D2CCA All-Region First Team. She joins Marah Range (2021) as the only Warriors to be named to the D2CCCA All-Region First Team.
Sports information directors from NCAA Division II Atlantic Region schools and conferences selected the two all-region teams. The process concludes with All-American selections announced later in the month. The Atlantic Region consists of schools from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), the Mountain East Conference (MEC), and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), along with independents Bluefield State and Salem.
The team is sponsored by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association, which encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
Zigmund and the Warriors look to punch their ticket to Chattanooga by winning a best-of-three series with Charleston, with the NCAA Super Regional beginning on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Creekview Park. Stay tuned for a complete regional preview later this week.
