Bartholomew, McCarthy Named to Lindy’s Sports Preseason All-Division II Team

EAST STROUDSBURG – East Stroudsburg University's Devin Bartholomew and Deshawn McCarthy have been named to Lindy's Sports Preseason All-Division II Team, the publication has announced.

McCarthy was named to the first team as a defensive lineman, while Bartholomew was selected to the second team as a placekicker. ESU was one of nine schools and the only in the program in the PSAC to have multiple honorees. Grand Valley State (4) and Virginia Union (3) led the way with selections. 

Both Bartholomew and McCarthy were honored on the D2Football.com Elite 100 Team following the season, with Bartholomew also earning AFCA All-America Second Team honors in 2022. McCarthy a two-time All-PSAC East First Team defensive lineman, looks to close his already impressive collegiate football career strong. The Philadelphia native recorded 36 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, three forced fumbles and four pass deflections this past season. He ranked sixth in the conference in sacks and ninth in tackles for loss and paced the conference in forced fumbles per game.

Entering 2023, McCarthy has 25 career sacks (5th most at ESU), 38.5 tackles for loss and five forced fumbles (tied for ninth). 2023 marks the second consecutive season McCarthy has been recognized by Lindy's Sports.

In 2023, Bartholomew made 17 of his 23 field goal attempts, including 11-of-13 from inside 40 yards. He ranked third nationally in field goals per game, 32nd in field goal percentage. In points scored this season - among all players - his 79 points rank 46th in NCAA Division II and fifth in the PSAC. The Parkland High School product was a perfect 28-28 this season on PAT attempts, improving his collegiate career mark to 57-57. The Warriors have made every point after touchdown the last three seasons (97-97 PAT), including its previous 99 attempts dating back to the 2018 season finale.

The Warriors open the 2023 season on Thursday, August 31 at 7:05 p.m. against Pace at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
