Women’s Cross Country Wins Adelphi Panthers XC Invite

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The East Stroudsburg University women's cross country team opened the 2023 season in impressive fashion, claiming first place overall in the 5K at the Adelphi Panthers XC Invite on Friday afternoon from the Bethpage Polo at the Park.

A youthful Warriors squad had five of the top-16 finishers in the race to capture the program's first team title since Oct. 19, 2018, at the Lebanon Valley Last Chance Run Fast Invitational.

Freshman Bri Hennett was remarkable in her collegiate debut, finishing as the runner-up with a time of 18:56.30. Fellow classmate Carla Bautista took fourth after crossing the line in 19:18.40 and graduate student Holly Chambers was seventh with a time of 19:42.90.

Freshman Payton Falkenstein rounded out the top-10 after clocking a time of 20:05.40, first-year student Mia Sisilli (20:27.30) finished off the scoring for ESU in 16th and sophomore Megan Elgrim took 18th with a time of 20:32.70.

Freshmen Kiera Wimbush (21st – 20:48.40), Gabriela Orama (24th – 21:00.00), Abby Kolb (35th– 22:13.30) and Tara Haring (37th – 22:16.60) all made their ESU debuts.

Juniors Alycia Smith (22:18.60) and Jada Williams (23:31.20) finished 38th and 43rd respectively.

Up Next

The Warriors go two weeks in between races as ESU heads to Massachusetts on Saturday, September 16 for the UMass Dartmouth Invitational. Action begins at noon from the Robert Dowd Cross Country Course.
