EAST STROUDSBURG – Following their first loss of the season, the top-ranked East Stroudsburg University field hockey team bounced back with a 10-0 victory over Roberts Wesleyan on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
Playing their first game in nine days, the Warriors improved to 6-1 overall headed into conference play while Roberts Wesleyan slipped to 1-5 after the Red Hawks battled their fifth PSAC opponent in their inaugural season.
Last time the Warriors registered double-digit goals in a game was on October 7, 2015, in a 11-0 victory over Mansfield.
Notables
- Kerry Kaufman led a huge offensive afternoon for the Warriors as the sophomore registered a pair of goals, including the first of her collegiate career at the 4:21 mark
- Junior Jady van Gils got the scoring started for ESU just two minutes into the game with her sixth goal of the season
- Senior Hanna Lewis (4:55) picked up her sixth goal of the year, which is tied for the team lead, while graduate student Nicole Krozser collected her fifth goal
- Freshman Minke Klijn (19:36) found the back of the net for the third time and fellow classmate Romee Peters notched her second goal of the campaign
- Registering the first goals of their college career were freshman Olivia Peechatka (36:27), sophomore Emma Friend (36:27) and freshman Riley McGrath (51:04)
- Sophomore Elaiana Rivera-Lagalla paced the Warriors with the first two assists of her career while Allyson Forman, Lewis, Kaufman and van Gils each picked up one
- The Warriors dominated possession and held massive advantages in shots (47-0), shots on goal (30-0) and penalty corners (14-0). It marks the second time this season that ESU held their opponent without a single shot.
- Senior Amy Supey (6-1) and freshman Jet Vermeulen each played 30 minutes in goal for ESU
- Red Hawks goalkeeper Abigail Henderson registered 19 saves in 55 minutes
- Head coach Sandy Miller tallied her 485th career victory this afternoon, now needing two more wins to move into third all-time in NCAA Division II
- ESU is now 30-12 all-time when ranked as the No. 1 in NCAA Division II, dating back to 2004
