EAST STROUDSBURG – In a battle between two of the best teams in the country, the top-ranked East Stroudsburg University field hockey team flexed their muscles down the stretch as the Warriors rallied from down 1-0 to defeat #3 Kutztown, 2-1, in overtime on Tuesday afternoon at Whitenight Field.
With 2:59 remaining on the clock, senior
Maddy Barbush stepped up to bury a penalty stroke which tied the game at 1-1. Then in overtime,
Nicole Krozser was up to her usual tricks as the graduate student snuck home the game-winner less than four minutes into the extra period.
Wrapping up a six-game homestand, the Warriors moved to 7-1 on the season and 1-0 in the PSAC while the Golden Bears suffered their first setback of the year, dropping to 6-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Notables
- Krozser registered her sixth goal of the season to tie for the team lead with senior Hanna Lewis and junior Jady van Gils
- Barbush scored her second goal of the campaign and is now 2-for-2 on penalty strokes
- Kutztown's Jillian Buchman scored the games first goal off a pass from Greenleigh McGehee at 33:03 mark in the third quarter
- Playing in all 60 minutes, senior goalkeeper Amy Supey improved to 7-1 on the season and 43-8 overall in her career
- ESU and Kutztown Golden Bears each had seven shots, but the Warriors had more on goal, 3-1. The Golden Bears held the edge in penalty corners, 13-6
- Head coach Sandy Miller tallied her 486th career win today, now needing one more victory to move into third all-time in NCAA Division II. Miller is currently tied with Shippensburg's (1999-2016) Bertie Landes.
- ESU is now 31-12 all-time when ranked as the No. 1 team in NCAA Division II, dating back to 2004
