Warriors Win Sixth Straight Match at Millersville

MILLERSVILLE – The East Stroudsburg University volleyball team extended its current winning streak to six-straight after earning a 3-1 victory over Millersville in a PSAC East match on Friday night inside Pucillo Gymnasium. The set scores were 25-12, 26-28, 25-23, 25-21.

The Warriors moved to 9-5 on the season and 2-0 in the conference while the Marauders fell to 5-8 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC East.

Notables vs. Millersville
  • Kaylee LoPresto notched her third double-double in her last fourth match as the redshirt senior finished with 17 kills and 14 digs to go along with one assist, ace and block a piece
  • Junior Taylor Haan tallied her fourth double-double of the season, recording 46 assists and 11 digs as well as two kills and four block assists
  • Sophomore Anna Coulter matched the team-high with 17 kills while adding five block assists, three digs and an ace
  • Graduate student Claire Choloux finished with nine kills and 10 assists
  • Junior Makaela McComas recorded a team-high 15 digs and and senior Makayla Baca added 11
  • Emma Kerwin totaled a match-high 24 kills for Millersville and Alex Nava totaled double figures with 16. Emma Ludwig notched a double-doubled with 46 assists and 15 kills while adding seven kills.  
  • ESU finished the edge in blocks (6-1) and Millersville had the advantage in aces (6-4)
  • The Warriors had a higher hitting percentage in all four sets and held a stellar 343-.219 lead in the category by the end of the match. In the first set, ESU recorded a .519 clip after posting 14 kills and 0 errors on 27 attacks.
  • With the victory, the Warriors improved to 26-45 overall against the Marauders having won four the last five matches.
How it Happened vs. Millersville
  • The Warriors raced out to an 8-3 lead in the first set after taking advantage of five Millersville errors as well as two kills from LoPresto and one from Choloux. The Marauders settled in after a timeout, scoring three of the next four points (9-6), until ESU answered with a 7-1 run to push their advantage to 16-7. It was back and forth over the next nine points (20-12), but the Warriors scored the final five to win the set 25-12 for a 1-0 edge in the match.
     
  • ESU held a two-point lead on numerous occasions to begin the second set (2-0, 4-2, 5-3, 6-4, 7-5, 8-6) but after Millersville tied it at 8-8, the Marauders scored seven of the next 11 points to go ahead 15-12. The Warriors recorded two quick kills out of a timeout to get within one, until Millersville responded with a 4-1 run to push their advantage back to 19-15. Following ESU's second timeout, the Warriors bounced back with a 5-1 spurt to even the score at 20-20. ESU would have a chance to close at the set out the set at 25-24 and 26-25, but the Marauders ripped off the last three points (28-26) to even the match at 1-1.
     
  • The Marauders carried over momentum into the third set, securing a 9-6 lead until the Warriors produced a 3-0 run to knot the score. With the score tied at 12-12, Millersville grabbed two-point leads at 14-12, 15-13, 16-14 and 17-15, until ESU scored four the next five points to pull ahead 19-18. Millersville went on a 3-1 run to regain the lead (21-20), but two quick points by the Warriors forced the Marauders into a timeout trailing 22-21. After a Millersville kill tied it, ESU scored three of the final four points, winning the set 25-23 for a 2-1 lead.
     
  • It was back and forth to start the fourth set as the Warriors were slightly ahead 9-8 until the Marauders scored three straight to go up 11-9. ESU proceeded to outscore Millersville, 7-2, which included a pair of 3-0 runs to stretch their lead to 16-13. The Warriors continued to roll out of a Marauders' timeout, going on a 6-0 spurt to extend the advantage to 22-13. Millersville went on an 8-2 to cut the deficit to 24-21 but a kill from LoPresto gave ESU a 3-1 victory in the match.
